It's been a few years since the building that once housed Paisley Violin was occupied, but that's all about to change in a couple weeks when ThirdSpace opens on Grand Avenue. Pooling the resources of the small complex of local businesses behind the building, the space will offer locally-roasted coffee, beer, wine, and light fare with a focus on local ingredients. The menu will feature health-conscious sandwich and salad options, all available via bar service or the walk-up patio window.
However, that's not all owner Neil Hounchell has planned for the space.

Hounchell says ThirdSpace, which is meant to be a place people can come and relax away from home (their first place) and work (their second place), is a community endeavor. The coffee will be provided by neighboring coffee roaster Morning Bell and the beer and wine menu will be curated by the folks at Red House Pub.
Although the space is still being built up in preparation for the opening, local art is already displayed on an exposed brick wall. The bar and patio window are both operational, with many other components to the space being ready as well, so Hounchell is hoping to open the cafe on Tuesday, June 3.
Hounchell says he plans to feature outdoor concerts when the weather is nicer and indoor concerts throughout the summer. He also plans to begin growing a small garden in the green area next to the building. He hopes the garden will eventually provide some herbs and veggies for ThirdSpace, but until then he plans to use almost exclusively local produce and meats from vendors such as Schreiner's.
ThirdSpace also has a big event planned for the upcoming Phoenix ComiCon weekend (June 5-8), which Hounchell says will include pedicab rides set up for attendees, comic and art vendors, professional body painting, and more.
