Two months ago, I found out about Verde, an intriguing new restaurant in the works from an established Valley chef who isn't divulging his name until he's ready to give notice with his current employer. (Given the construction delays he's faced, I can't blame him.)
Located at 825 N. 1st Street (just a stone's throw from Matt's Big Breakfast), the restaurant will be serving rustic Mexican food with hot, made-to-order tortillas when it opens, likely in mid-January.
In the meantime you can get taste of the menu on First Friday, when Verde will be serving food out back.
Joe Garcia of the popular La Vida Locavore food truck (which often appears at the Old Town Farmers Market in Scottsdale) is teaming up with Verde to serve hungry customers in the parking lot.
From 4 p.m. until they run out, they'll be serving Verde's signature entrees with tortillas: braised chile pork, red chile beef, and Mexican oregano and lime chicken.
Everything will be just five bucks, too. I'm hungry already!
