This Saturday, beer fans will be busy getting their drink on at the AmeriCAN Canned Craft Beer Festival. But don't worry, wine lovers, there's something for you, too. You can hit the streets (and the light-rail tracks) for the eighth annual Urban Wine Walk.
The self-guided, non-mobile tour is a perfect event for those winos who also love walking, sweating, and the downtown 'hood. And the best part is, according to the event website, all you need to get in on the action is "a light-rail pass, comfortable shoes, and a sense of adventure."
The wine walk will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 17 and includes 19 restaurants, located off Central Avenue from Lincoln Street and Camelback Road.
Each of the restaurants will offer wine samples priced between $2 and $3 as well as snack plates -- think Cocktail Sausage Meatballs at Short Leash, Mac + Cheese Muffins at The Duce, and Pretzels & Provolone Fondue at The Arrogant Butcher.
To participate (and avoid a run-in with the law), you'll want to get an all-day light-rail pass or use some other sort of transportation. You'll probably also want a friend or two, since walking around and drinking alone probably isn't as fun as doing so with a pack or pals.
The tour begins at CityScape Residences and the first 300 people to arrive will get a commemorative wine glass. Wine-drunk walkers are also invited to the tower's 14th-floor pool deck for a $2 Prosecco champagne toast, fresh fruit and cheese boards.
