Hey, Phoenix, remember Mike Kennedy? He's the stand-up comedian and private investigator who was nominated for a Big Brain award last year.

Well, you can catch him regularly at Stand Up Live in Scottsdale, but right now, you also can check out the funny Phoenician on national television. Kennedy is among a handful of talentless home cooks currently competing on the sixth season of Cooking Channel's Worst Cooks in America. The show, hosted by chefs Anne Burrell and Tyler Florence, attempts to teach these folks some kitchen skills, with the most improved contestant winning a $25,000 prize.

"I have no idea how to cook whatsoever," says Kennedy of why he wanted to go on the show.

"I've never had to cook. I usually have a girlfriend who cooks for me, and I decided maybe I just need to stop getting in bad relationships and learn how to cook for myself. That might be a better strategy."

Prior to entering, Kennedy says he could really only manage to cook "anything out of a box" -- but admits he'd never tried to use a recipe (in part because he didn't own the ingredients a recipe might require.) He also admits multitasking wasn't an option.

"And I only do the one thing," he says. "I don't do a meal, where it's like four things in a meal. I'll just make the one thing and then maybe an hour later I'll make another part of that meal."

In the first episode of the season, which aired on Sunday, January 4, Kennedy was challenged to make chateaubriand. That was when the comedian says he realized he was probably the worst cook of the bunch.

"I was, like, shut the door. You know what that is?" Kennedy says. "I don't even know what that is!"

Nevertheless, the managed to make it through the first round of the competition and will appear in the next episode of the seven-part series. In each episode two contestants will go home, one from each of the celebrity chef's teams.

Cooking Channel's Worst Cooks in America airs on Sunday nights. Check your local listings for details. You can watch the season six premier on the Food Network website.
