There's no shortage of outstanding Mexican fare in metro Phoenix, but we're more than happy to welcome another south of the border joint onto the scene -- especially when it offers to-go breakfast burros at just $2.75 a piece.

Since that's exactly what one experienced Phoenix by way of Ft. Collins restaurant owner decided to do when he opened the doors at Castillon's Family Mexican Restaurant in late July, it might be time for you to pay a visit to the new restaurant located off of Bell Road just east of 32nd Street. Plus, it's not just the burritos that are a steal at Castillon's.

Sure, that breakfast burrito seems almost impossible to pass up with either eggs, bacon, and potato; beef and bean; eggs, bacon, potato, and beans; or eggs, chorizo, and potatoes to choose from. However, if you stop in after breakfast time, you'll also find house specialties like stuffed sopapillas, crispy tacos, and fried ice cream all made from Castillon family recipes.

All burritos come topped with owner Johnny Castillon's green chile pork sauce and the enchiladas come topped with a red chile con carne sauce made from his father, Elias Castillon's recipe.

Chef and owner Johnny Castillon ran a restaurant of the same name and menu in Ft. Collins, Colorado for about twenty years but five months ago he packed up and moved to Phoenix to retire. Retirement didn't last long for Castillon though because now he's back running a restaurant, but this time in Phoenix.

The restaurant will serve craft beer, wines, and margaritas when they receive their liquor license.

To try some of the Castillon family's traditional recipes, you can stop into the restaurant at 3510 East Bell Road, Suite 3 Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. For more information, call 602-569-9861 or visit the Castillon's Family Mexican Restaurant website.
