Inaugural Scottsdale Beer Festival
This Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m. at WestWorld, the first Scottsdale Beer Festival will hosted by Drink:Eat:Play, organizers of events like the LA Bacon & Beer festivals, San Francisco Brew Festival, and Chicago Beer Festival. The $40 admission gets you sample pours from 50-some beer makers, including locals Grand Canyon Brewing Company and Cartel, hard-to-find craft beers like Logsdon Farmhouse Ales from Oregon, and international imports such as Thistly Cross Cider and Tripel Karmeliet. There will also be food available, sold separately. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
With Mother's Day coming up on Sunday, flower sales will be through the roof. But you can one-up the traditional bouquet with tickets to Saturday's Arcadia Edible Garden Tour. Beginning at 9 a.m., you and your mom can be guided through nine Arcadia gardens, including Hal & Jill's Sweet Life Garden and David & Caroline Van Slyke's Boho Farm, tasting the very literal fruits of local gardeners' labors. The tour will showcase urban orchards, backyard herb and vegetable gardens, berry hedges, water ponds, chicken coops, and more, and the experts will offer tips to try their methods at home. The tour is $15 per person, free for children 7 and under, and concludes at 1 p.m.
Mother's Day at English Rose Tea Room
Some moms like brunch, some dinner, and others dessert. But if your mother has a taste for old-fashioned finery, a trip to the English Rose Tea Room is in order for an afternoon of Earl Grey and tiny tea cakes. The charming Carefree business will have a special holiday deal for $48. Stop by with the matriarchs of your family to enjoy a six-course afternoon tea with bites to eat like smoked salmon tea sandwiches, sugar-powdered scones served with real Devon cream, and assorted pastries and candies. This Saturday, May 11, Cowboy Ciao is having a unique day of deals for wine lovers. If you didn't drink enough tequila last weekend for Cinco de Mayo, now's your chance to load up. The 4th Annual Tequilazona will be at Tempe Marketplace on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be plenty of blancos, reposados, añejos, and extra añejos to sample, and vendors will be on hand to offer info about their distilling processes. The event features makers like Cruz, Tequila Herradura, Dirty Tequila, Julio Cesar Chavez Tequila, KAH Day of the Dead, el Jimador, Tanteo, and more. Food will be provided by Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches, Cadillac Ranch, and other restaurants. Tickets are $40 pre-sale, $55 at the gate -- if any are still available. This festival is limited to 500 attendees.
