The Heard Museum will host a final installment of the Native + You (NU) series this Friday with an evening to "meet artists, enjoy dining and cocktails, and see new work" in the Berlin Gallery.

The event will also include a panel of young Native American artists Dustinn Craig, Dallin Maybee, and Melissa Cody that will be moderated by appraiser Christy Vezolles.

"I think the panel will allow us to relate a little bit more about who we are and where our inspiration comes from," says Maybee, who began creating art at a young age and has won awards for his children books and clothing, "I think the panel is a great way for the community to simply connect with the artists in a way that makes us a bit more accessible than usual."

The NU series was designed to counter the stereotype of Native culture being "in the past and behind the glass," according to event program co-director Jaclyn Roessel. NU works to bring young Native artists and their experimental works and media into the spotlight.

"I suppose I would hope that the attendees learn a little about who we are as artists and as native peoples," says Maybee.

In addition to Maybee, Craig, and Cody's art panel, artists Sarah Sense, Frank Buffalo Hyde and Benjamin Harjo, Jr. will also be showing pieces in the Berlin Gallery; Hyde and Harjo, Jr. will be in attendance, ready to talk art.

Heard Museum is located at 2301 N. Central Avenue. NU starts at 6 p.m., and the discussion panel is from 7:30 to 9 p.m.. Admission is free. For more information, check out the event invitation.
