Groups of local creatives are determined to transform the stretch of Washington Street now known for empty storefronts and stagnant industry into a center of entrepreneurial energy in the Valley.
Leading the charge: CO+HOOTS, the co-working office space currently on 7th Street. The team recently announced their plans to join soon-to-open local entrepreneurial incubator, SEEDspot, in new digs on what's been dubbed "Washington Row."
According to the announcement, "CO+HOOTS 2.0" will officially launch at 1027 East Washington Street as of October 1st.
The new space will be in a renovated 1940s auto shop and will provide space for the company to expand their capacity. They will also add parking, showers for bike commuters, and additional conference space.
"The move will transcend CO+HOOTS beyond its functional role as a stand-alone collaborative space," says CO+HOOTS Founder Jenny Poon. "It will help institute a big-picture plan focused on creating enduring partnerships and breathing life into the entrepreneurial core of the city."
The SEEDspot team also hopes to open in their renovated building at 1 N. 24th Street, south of Washington Street, by the fall. When both businesses settle in their buildings they will be located less than two miles apart on Washington Street.
"Its incredibly encouraging seeing young entrepreneurs taking hold of a place that needs revitalization," SEEDspot Founder Courtney Klein Johnson says. "We dream of Washington Street being the epicenter of innovation in the Valley."
