Sergio Norzagaray's been in a non-stop grind making arrangements for the pimp series of parties he's promoting at Club Silver in downtown Phoenix during MLB All-Star Week and there's plenty left to be done.
"It's hectic," Norzagaray says. "I've been busy working with different liquor companies, arranging set times with DJs, and just getting everything ready for this weekend."
As one of the closest clubs to the Chase Field, where a majority of the All-Star Week events will be taking place, Norzagaray's naturally hoping that both baseball fans and celebrities will stop by his shindigs.
He's not the only one. Bars and clubs in both Phoenix and Scottsdale are planning swanky celebrations in honor of All-Star Week and are booking some famous jocks and glitterati to make an appearance at their affairs. Other promoters will attempt to cash in on all the baseball hoopla by slapping an official All-Star logo on their fliers and hoping that sports fans beat a path to their party.
We've assembled a list of the some of the many nightlife events that are confirmed to have superstar athletes and celebrities in attendance, as well as a few other off-the-chain events.
American Junkie:
If you think that Justin Upton is gonna spend the hours leading up to his All-Star appearance practicing, think again. The Arizona Diamondbacks will be a special guest star at American Junkie's red carpet affair on Sunday night. The FOX Sports Girls will also be in the house and legendary rapper Biz Markie will be DJing all evening. Doors open at 8 p.m. (4363 North 75th Street, Scottsdale, 480-990-3000)
Club Silver: All-Star events will be held nearly every evening from Friday night through the big game on Tuesday night at the posh downtown Phoenix party pad. DJs Kyko and Dario start things out with Privileged Fridays tomorrow night with Latin jams, liquor specials, appearances by lingerie models, and more. The parties taking place Sunday through Tuesday will also feature the duo of Mando and Fuego, appearances by Arizona Diamondbacks players, and a special giveaways. Doors open at 8 p.m. each night. Cream Stereo Lounge:
Shake a tailfeather in style during Cream's All-Star Pre-party, which coincides with its weekly Sensation Saturdays affair. DJs, go-go dancers, and bottle deals will be on tap for the event, which kicks off at 9 p.m. on Sunday. (4252 North Drinkwater Boulevard, Scottsdale, 602-222-9922)
The Firehouse:
The former Mickey's Hangover gets into the swing of things with it's All-Star House Party on Sunday evening. Drink specials like $3 beers and $4 you-call-its will be offered, while DJs Nick Jagger and Jon Amaral will be in the mix all night. (4312 North Brown Avenue, Scottsdale, 480-265-6989)
Millennium Resort:
NFL legend Roy Green will host a charity pool party on Saturday afternoon at the chic Scottsdale resort that will be attended by such gridiron greats as Eric Dickerson and William "The Refrigerator" Perry. Gates open at 11 a.m. and admission is $20. (7401 North Scottsdale Road, 480-948-5050)
The Mint:
If ever there was a spot for well-moneyed ballers and their big bankrolls to play, it's at Old Town's monetary-themed nightspot. A slew of superstar athletes and celebrities will be in the house at The Mint during its All-Star Jam charity event on Sunday, which will be hosted by Tampa Bay Rays infielder Evan Longoria. Benefiting Phoenix Children's Hospital, the swanky soiree will feature music from D-JR, raffles for designer rucksacks filled with Nike products and other killer schwag (tickets are $20 each), and a red carpet welcome for attendees. W Scottsdale Hotel
Don't be surprised if you encounter a few MLB players at this haute hotel, as many major leaguers will be partying at any of the W's numerous All-Star celebrations. It kicks off on Saturday with the "Coolest Party in the Desert," a swanky poolside event hosted by World Series MVP Jermaine Dye and onetime Chicago White Sox slugger Frank "Big Hurt" Thomas. On Sunday, the public can also attend the "Diamond in the Desert" party and mingle with some of the biggest legends in sports or hang out in the Old Spice locker room while feasting on hot dogs, ice cream and other baseball concession favorites.
