On the map:
1.Fridge-a-Thon at After Hours Gallery: SRP unveils their traveling exhibit that promotes appliance recycling. Local artists, including Linda Suffidy, Kyle Jordre, Seam McLaughlin, Zarco and others transformed non-functioning refrigerators that will be displayed together for the first time tonight. The show will premiere from 7 to 10pm and will be open to the public Monday through Friday from 10am to 5pm until June 30th.
2. eye lounge features Angela Cazel-Jean's Glass Experiment. Cazel-Jean is set out to prove to herself that resin and glass are not the same material. Her installation includes painted glass, textbooks and shredded CDs. "There is something relevant to me about images made up of little particles of data," she says. "It's the way the world seems."
3. The Trunk Space on Grand Avenue presents the photographic work of Arcadia High School students. All students were taught by Aaron Abbott.
4. Snacks and Drinks: Pass the bars north of McKinley and west of 7th Street -- unless you want to fight somebody for the last PBR. Our recommendations: margaritas at Tradiciones, Bikini Lounge or happy hour at Amsterdam. Or grab some candy at Sweets and Beats.
5. Other Useful Information: We know from experience that eye lounge happens to have the cleanest bathroom in the 'hood. Just sayin'. CORRECTION: WE ARE TOLD THAT EYE LOUNGE DOES NOT HAVE A PUBLIC BATHROOM!
Off the map:
1. UAC (Urban Artists Collective) will have its first gallery exhibition at Willo North Gallery on Seventh Avenue and Thomas Road. The collective was formed by Todd Daniel Grossman (full disclosure: he's married to our theater critic, Robrt L. Pela) and Patricia Sahertian and includes artists such as Shari Bombeck, Margaret, Coulombe, Todd Daniel, JA Jurewicz, Jill Lawrence, Winston Thorne and more. The reception is from 6 to 11 p.m. and the exhibition will be open to the public through July.
2. Cartel Coffee Lab, 1 North First Street, hosts Brandon Duff for its very first First Friday opening. If turnout is large enough, Cartel promises to stay open for future First Fridays ... so come on! Order some lattes!
