Phoenix New Times has an immediate opening for a freelance visual arts critic.

We are looking for someone who knows about art -- but as an observer of the metro Phoenix arts scene, rather than a part of it.

New Times' lead art critic will review all sorts of shows, at venues ranging from the city's largest museums to the smallest galleries and pop-ups. We want someone who does his/her homework, with a knowledge of art that backs up strong opinions and the curiousity and work ethic required to track down the most interesting shows.

There will also be opportunities to write for the paper's award-winning culture blog, Jackalope Ranch.
