You. You think you're sooo smart. Know what, genius? So are a bunch of other folks in town. Take in their theories as they pontificate on such subjects as superheros, hiking, and UFOs this February. It's mind-expanding stuff, and it needs to be penciled in the ol' planner.

"Superheros in Narrative: Comics Come of Age in Print and Film" @ ASU Polytechnic Considering we blocked out a recent Tuesday and devoted it entirely to the superheros edition of PBS' Pioneers of Television, we're not in any place to call Teague von Bohlen a nerd. This being stated, the descriptor's fairly fitting, given the novelist and UC Denver creative writing assistant professor will discuss comic book characters in an upcoming lecture.

During "Superheros in Narrative: Comics Come of Age in Print and Film," von Bohlen will outline how heroes like Superman and Wonder Woman have changed when presented in different media. ASU's online literary mag, Superstition Review, presents the free talk on Wednesday, February 13, from 2 to 3 p.m. in Cooley Ballroom A at the Polytechnic campus.

"The Creaky Knees Guide to Arizona" @ REI Tempe In celebration of Arizona's 101st birthday, hiker and author Bruce Grubbs will dish on his favorite trails around the state. Snag a few tips during his talk at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, at REI Tempe. He'll sign his book The Creaky Knees Guide Arizona: The 80 Best Easy Hikes. Admission is free.

"Equity, Mobility, and the Quality of Urban Life" @ Tempe Center for the Arts Former Bogotá, Colombia, mayor Enrique Peñalosa is known for helping transform the urban city into a more walkable, bike-able, and enoyable place to live. He'll discuss his sustainability initiatives and how they can be implemented in other places during his talk at Tempe Center for the Arts on Monday, February 18, at 5:30 p.m. RSVP by emailing [email protected].

Creative Mornings Phoenix: Money @ TBA Get ready to roll out of bed a little early on Friday, February 22. That's when Creative Mornings' Phoenix chapter will host its free lecture (this month's topic is moolah). The 20-minute talk includes breakfast. Keep tabs on CMP for updates on the event and location via Twitter at @Phoenix_CM.

"UFOs Over Native American Reservation Lands" @ Fort McDowell Resort & Casino Press pause on that X-Files marathon. The UFO Congress begins February 26 with films, lectures, and panel discussions that continue through March 3. Of particular interest to local enthusiasts will be Stanley Milford and Jonathan Dover's lecture on UFO activity observed over reservations. Probe their research when they present it on Wednesday, February 27, from 10:30 to 11:45 p.m. at Fort McDowell.
