Thanksgiving Cocktails from Martha Stewart

Let's face it: During the holidays we all hope and aim to be Suzie Homemaker: The best damn party hostess that ever lived. This week, we turn to the homemaking, party-planning, holiday-hosting goddess Martha Stewart herself for a Thanksgiving cocktail and get not just one but a dozen options (some are even non-alcoholic for the little ones or the underage siblings, nieces, nephews and cousins who are always trying to snag the leftover booze).

Since there's really no better accessory than a cocktail in your hand, each week Jackalope Ranch brings you a tasty adult beverage from one of our favorite drinking establishments, complete with recipe.

This week: Thanksgiving Cocktails from Martha Stewart.

Let's face it: During the holidays we all hope and aim to be Suzie Homemaker: The best damn party hostess that ever lived. This week, we turn to the homemaking, party-planning, holiday-hosting goddess Martha Stewart herself for a Thanksgiving cocktail and get not just one but a dozen options (some are even non-alcoholic for the little ones ... or the underage siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins who are always trying to snag the leftover booze).

Now, while some people here at New Times are a little Martha-obsessed, we have a love-hate Martha relationship. Everything she does is awesome, but sometimes it's just too damn complicated. Take the shortcut sometimes, why don't you, Martha?! Make life easier for the rest of us mere mortals.

Needless to say, we were pretty bowled over when Martha's Thanksgiving cocktails didn't involve distilling our own booze. In the giving spirit, we bring you two cocktails both with four or fewer ingredients and even less steps: The Cognac Sparkler and Olive-Rosemary Martini.

(Recipe after the jump.)

Cognac Sparkler
½ oz. (1 Tbsp) cognac
½ cup chilled sparkling apple cider (or hard cider for an "extra kick")
A few dashes bitters

Pour the cognac in a champagne flute, top with cider and add a few dashes of bitters. No stirring necessary.

Olive-Rosemary Martini
2 ounces gin
2 teaspoons dry vermouth
1 rosemary sprig, stripped of leaves on bottom 2 inches
Pitted olives

Shake gin and vermouth over ice and strain into a martini glass. Skewer the olives with the rosemary sprig, garnish, and enjoy!

Thanks Martha, now it's time to eat, drink, and be merry! P/s: We got Martha's drink recipes here, check it out for more ideas!
