This week ASU's Performance in the Borderlands Project will host an event celebrating the release of Tucson poet Logan Phillips' first full-length collection, Sonoran Strange. The evening will feature readings and performances by a variety of local writers and artists, including Arizona's first Poet Laureate, Alberto Alvaro Rios.

Performance in the Borderlands, which is underwritten by ASU's School of Film, Dance, and Theatre, will be focusing on the poetry of Logan Phillips on Wednesday, February 11. The Project strives to showcase and promote artistic works that speak to the cultural identities contained within -- you guessed it -- the Arizona-Sonora borderlands.

Phillips received an Arizona Commission on the Arts Artists Project Grant in 2012. Sonoran Strange is a collection of poems, but also a performative work of installation art that explores the mythology, culture, and politics of our region.

Movement artist Liliana Gomez and musician Gabriel Sullivan of Tucson's Chicha Dust will also perform at the event. Arizona Poet Laureate Alberto Alvaro Rios will also read from his work.

This Sonoran Strange book release will happen at The Icehouse from 7 to 9 p.m. on February 11, and is free to the public.
