Awwww, Bruno Mars. What a puppy dog he is.
He's the lyrical epitome of what a man should be--accepting, someone who doles out sincere compliments, someone who wants his partner to be his equal, etc. And his current single, "Grenade," is yet another example of what a fine gentleman he is.
In the song, he sings about everything he's willing to do for his girlfriend, including die for her. "I'd catch a grenade for you, throw my hand on a blade for you, I'd jump in front of a train for you," he sings. Unfortunately, Little Miss Thang treats him badly and presumably would do none of these for him.
Things get even sadder when listeners hear how the lady has proactively been mean to Mars. "Black, black, black and blue, beat me 'til I'm numb...You'll smile in my face, then rip the breaks out my car." This song is a great reminder to couples to treat each other with kindness and respect. One person shouldn't be putting in all the effort while getting walked on by the other. Relationships should be equal partnerships, not ones like the one he's singing about when he says, "Easy come, easy go, that's just how you live. Oh, take, take, take it all, but you never give." If one person is the only one doing all the loving, then something is definitely wrong.
And Mars channeled that into a hit pop song that's been climbing the charts since it debuted. It's catchy, pretty and emotional--a meaningful track. Check out his performance of it last month at Martini Ranch below, plus the official music video under that.
