Phoenix band KONGOS may be no-frills when it comes to their rock performances, but the indie rock group with African influence created a dang sexy spectacle with their newest video for their current single, "I'm Only Joking".
The clip looks like it could be sandwiched between Ke$ha and Nelly Furtado on a video playlist, as it features the band playing an uber-cool underground party with neat lighting and sultry dancing. There's also some tribal imagery, which makes sense considering the band of four brothers came to Phoenix by way of South Africa.
Perhaps the most impressive part of the clip is that KONGOS directed, filmed, edited and funded the video themselves, working off of a $1,000 budget and shooting it around downtown Phoenix this past July. Read the meaning behind the song here, and check out lyrics and the clip after the jump. If you like what you see, the guys are playing The Lost Leaf in downtown Phoenix this Friday, August 19, and you can download their music for free here.
I'm Only Joking
by Jesse Kongos
Wadu-aidu-wadaidu
There is a song
You're trembling to it's tune
At the request of the moon
Licking her chops
She looks at the lunatics
She needs another fix
I'm only joking
I don't believe a thing i said
What are you smoking
I'm just fucking with your head
Only a crazy
Little thing I read
Maybe the planets
Are trying to become the stars
And we really came from Mars
The earth is alive
And man is a parasite
(and) Heavenly bodies make us fight
I'm only joking
