Local rapper Random (a.k.a. Mega Ran) is nothing if not prolific. In fact, he's one of the more productive hip-hop/nerdcore artists out of Arizona, consistently delivering top-notch projects like "Black Materia" and "Forever Famicom" to the masses, as well as releasing close to a dozen different jams last year via his SoundCloud, Bandcamp, and Facebook pages.

And with 2014 under way, it doesn't look as though he's going to slow down anytime soon. Not only is the Philly-born, Phoenix-based rapper preparing to embark on a tour on the West Coast, he recently dropped one of his biggest collaborations to date: a teaming with the underground hip-hop legend MURS and East Coast rapper Joell Ortiz of Slaughterhouse/Shady Records.

The result is Random's newest effort, "Losses," a four-minute track described as a "heartfelt lifeline to anyone who's lost anything or anyone to the high-stakes game of the streets."

And for Random, one of the brighter stars on the nerdcore and underground hip-hop circuits, it's one of his biggest collaborations to date and a departure from his usual video game-inspired sounds.

Produced by Alex Minor, the guitar-tinged, boom-bap soundscape features heartfelt lyrics from all three emcees and is complemented by soulful singing provided by local songstress Tina Estes.

"Loses" is the first single from Random's upcoming Wouldn't Miss for the World EP, scheduled to be released this spring as a free download. Random is scheduled to take off on his "Total Destruction Tour" beginning February 19 with support from BrentalFloss and Danimal Cannon leading up to a performance at SXSW in March. Random will showcase new music as well as select tracks from popular releases like Black Materia.

Before Random hits the road, however, he's scheduled to perform at Last Exit Live along with The Gentlemen Ether, Wax Society, and TKLB? at Last Exit Live on Thursday, February 13. More info about the gig can be found via our online concert calendar.
