I was considering a blog about the Lowrider show at Phoenix Art Museum tomorrow but the fine folks over in Night & Day already got their paws on it. Nicely done, guys.

Lucky for us, there's plenty of good stuff going on around town. Like the Heard Museum's NU (Native + You) taking place tonight, on-site at their Central Avenue location. NU is an ongoing event, scheduled every third Friday of the month, to coincide with the downtown Third Friday Artwalk.

Tonight sounds like a spectacular evening because the Heard enlisted Kathy Cano-Murillo (a.k.a. The Crafty Chica) and her husband Patrick Murillo for a special live auction. The pair will be auctioning off artwork from their exhibition La Casa Murillo.

La Casa Murillo is a life-size installation of the Murillo's dream home (click here for a slideshow). The Crafty Chica is known for pouring her infectious, glittering energy into her visual works - constantly creating dazzling pieces with seqins and sparkles galore. The couple works in a "Chicano pop art" style and will put up their original, handmade wares (head-boards, artwork influenced by Dia de Los Muertos, paintings, furniture, lanterns and other spectacular decor) for bid. To check out the goods in advance, click here.

The night rounds out with a live performance of Afro-Brazilian music and martial arts inspired dance by Axe Capoeira Arizona as well as a set by the acoustic duo, The Wanderers.

Plus, there's no fee for entry and booze will be available at the cash bar.

NU (Native + You) is tonight, Friday, August 21st from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the auction at 7 p.m at the Heard Museum, 2301 N. Central Ave. in Phoenix. Call 602-252-8848 or visit www.heard.org/NU.
