Molotov, Fayuca Set to Rock Foundry on First

You know how every once in a while an album comes out and just throws a right cross to your jaw? That's how I felt the first time I heard ¿Dónde Jugarán las Niñas? by Mexico's hip-hop metal outfit Molotov.

It was epic.

The album, titled as a play off of Latino pop/rock quartet Maná, is a brash and offensive compilation of heavy guitar riffs mixed with rapping social commentary ripped off in Spanish and English. Tracks like "Chinga Tú Madre," "Puto," and "Quítate Que Ma'sturbas," don't really need translation.

Equally impressive is the band's live show.

When the guys storm into the Foundry on First this Thursday, September 1, local ska/punk trio Fayuca will not only be opening for the band, they'll be thinking back to the first time they saw Molotov in 2003, when they were still discovering their own identity.

Follow the jump for more details and some words from Fayuca front man, Gabriel Solorzano.

Up On the Sun: The Assassination dropped in 2009, what have you guys been up to since then?

Gabriel Solorzano: Assassination came out and we started touring. We spread the word about the album and managed to pick up some cool tour dates with 311 and Bad Fish. That's pretty much it, touring and writing music when we have time off.

We're in the process of recording a new album. We're hoping to have it done by November but right now it's looking like a December or January release date.

You're opening up for Molotov this Thursday. Did you guys follow them while you were coming up?

Molotov was a huge influence for us. Back in 2003 they played at the Marquee Theatre, and that was around the time we were starting our band. We really didn't know what we wanted to do or how to be performers, but when we went to that Molotov concert, it was a huge "wow." Their on-stage performance was amazing.

We always loved their CDs but watching them live left us in shock. It gave us an idea of what [how to] gauge our performance after. Either be a band that just plays good music, or be a band that's entertaining and fun live as well. Molotov was a huge influence on us in that aspect.

¿Dónde Jugarán las Niñas? reminds me of cruising around in my friend's shitty little bug. Actually it was really nice but he didn't have a stereo so we would load up a boombox with batteries and cruise around town bumping that CD.

They were a huge part of our lives growing up and now that we're opening for them it's really exciting for us.

Are you guys looking forward to playing The Foundry?

We heard a lot about it through press releases. I thought it was going to be a small indie lounge at first, and then I saw pictures of it and that it was going to be a huge venue in downtown. We're really excited to play there and hopefully make it our new home because we're from the west side, Tolleson, so any time we play a show we gotta drive all the way to Tempe. Having a venue closer to Phoenix that we can try to call our home? I think it's about time.
