A "man" punched a woman in the face after he was denied in his attempt to make a move on her friend at a bar on Mill Avenue in Tempe.
The suspect, 22-year-old Norman Sells, also punched one man, kicked another man, and threatened to punch another woman, according to court documents obtained by New Times.
Although the incident occurred in August, Sells just recently was arrested, after police discovered the extent of one of the victims' injuries.
It all started when Sells allegedly grabbed a woman's butt on the dance floor at the Rooftop Lounge and Patio, at Fifth Street and Mill Avenue. Sells wouldn't leave the woman alone, despite her repeated tries to get him to leave, so she pushed him away.
"Sells took a few steps back, cocked his fist back in a punching motion, winked at her, and then walked away," a probable-cause statement says.
He then came back with his buddies and argued with the woman and her friends. Sells proceeded to punch one of the woman's female friends right in the face, according to court documents.
Sells then ran away and punched a security guard in the back of the head on his way out, the documents state.
Then, outside, on the corner of Fifth Street and Mill, one of Sells' friends clocked a guy in the face, and a police officer watched Sells kick the man in the face, according to the documents.
That man was hospitalized with several fractures to his nose and cuts on his head and face. He was "told to see a plastic surgeon" to fix his nose, according to court documents.
Those injuries were enough to warrant a felony charge, so police arrested Sells again, weeks after the incident. Police arrested Sells at a University of Phoenix location, where he does "janitorial" work.
According to court documents, Sells admitted to punching and kicking the man who had to be hospitalized. After Sells was arrested, police also found a bag of weed in his pocket, the documents state.
Sells was booked into jail on three counts of misdemeanor assault, one count of disorderly conduct, and felony charges of aggravated assault and marijuana possession.
Court records show Sells took a plea agreement, pleading guilty to all the charges, although the marijuana and aggravated-assault charges were reduced.
