Daniel Wayne Cook has a date with death, and it's not the first time it's been scheduled.
After getting a last-minute stay of execution from the U.S. Supreme Court taking the bait
more than a year ago, Cook's execution now is
scheduled for August 8, after the high court decided not to side with
him.
Cook's lawyers had argued Cook suffers from post-traumatic-stress disorder and brain damage that wasn't diagnosed at the time of his sentencing.
They argue that years of sexual abuse at the hands of family members and others caused his condition, and because of his mental illness, he should be given a life sentence as opposed to the death penalty.
On the other hand, Cook murdered two people with an old pal.
Cook and his roommate tied a man to a chair and began beating him with a pipe.
Cook cut the man with a knife, sodomized him, and burned his genitals with cigarettes. After a few hours of that, Cook and his roommate crushed the man's throat with the pipe.
When an acquaintance showed up at the apartment, Cook forced him upstairs and showed him the man's body, before Cook and his pal tied him to a chair.
Cook sodomized the man before he and his friend strangled the second man to death with a bed sheet.
So, for this morning's question: is it finally time for Daniel Wayne Cook to be executed?
