Former Arizona Democratic Party Chairman Don Bivens announced yesterday that he's running for the United States Senate seat getting vacated by Senator Jon Kyl...as a Democrat.
Aside from the obvious challenges Bivens faces by being a Democrat in a "red state" like Arizona, he's also likely to have to face Congressman Jeff Flake in the general election.
Flake is currently the front-runner in the race -- from any party -- assuming former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, or Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords don't jump into the race (each has been rumored to be considering a run for Kyl's seat).
Flake already has cash on his side -- as of June, Flake already had raised $2 million.
But Flake may have to cough up some of that cash to fend off his GOP challenger Wil Cardon, who has boatloads of his own money to drop on a GOP primary, and of the support of Arizona's far-right-wingers.
Bivens doesn't seem to stand a chance in hell in beating a Republican like Flake or Cardon in a state like Arizona, but we want to know what you think: could Bivens pull it off?
