A Mesa man was arrested Tuesday after authorities say he molested his 6-year-old step-granddaughter on several occasions at her Chandler home. In at least one case, police say he used pieces of pool equipment.
According to court documents obtained by New Times, on July 20, the girl's mother reported to police that her step-father had been molesting her daughter.
Police launched an investigation and interviewed the girl, who told them her step-grandfather, 75-year-old Albert Wassman, molested her on several occasions and would frequently expose his penis to her and discuss masturbation.
In a video-recorded interview, the girl told police that since she turned 6-years-old, the molestation occurred frequently -- most recently on Monday.
In that case, the girl claims she was in a pool with Wassman when he touched her vagina. He then whipped out his penis and started discussing masturbation with the girl.
Wassman then took the handle to a pool sweeper and used it to "manipulate" her vagina.
Then he started masturbating with the girl in the pool with him.
Later that day, Wassman and the girl were alone together in the girl's house when he started talking about masturbation again.
Sure enough, he pulled out his penis and started whackin' it again, the court docs show. He asked the girl to help out this time, but she refused.
Police arranged a pretext call between Wassman and the girl's father, in which Wassman admitted to the father that he exposed himself to the girl, discussed masturbation, and masturbated in front of her.
After he was arrested, Wassman admitted to police what he'd told the girl's father and admitted to using the pool sweeper in the molestation.
Wassman said he committed the acts "as education for the child." Then he admitted that it kinda turned him on.
Wassman's been charged with indecent exposure, public sexual indecency, and child molestation. He's being held in a Maricopa County jail without bond.
