Chris Squire, the virtuosic bass player for YES, has cancer and will not join the band on its upcoming tour, the band announced today.

Squire will receive treatment in Phoenix over the next couple months, a release on the band's website stated.

The band was scheduled to tour North America over the summer with Toto, as well as a performance on a cruise ship in November. The band plans to honor those commitments, and will enlist former Yes member Billy Sherwood to play bass during the performances.

Squire has been the only constant member of YES throughout the band's nearly five-decade history.

"This will be the first time since the band formed in 1968 that YES will have performed live without me," Squire said in the release. "But the other guys and myself have agreed that Billy Sherwood will do an excellent job of covering my parts and the show as a whole will deliver the same YES experience that our fans have come to expect over the years."

Yes is scheduled to play Talking Stick Resort on Friday, September 4.
