Look for the single red light bulb.

That's the advice we got from someone who visited downtown Phoenix's newest watering hole, Melinda's Alley, during its debut on Friday, January 1. The new bar is a speakeasy in the modern sense of the word, which is to say it's not an illegal Prohibition-style saloon, but rather a bar with no signage, no website, and a menu of craft cocktails.

If you want to check it out for yourself, you'll probably have to do a little searching. There's no official address, but we can tell you it's located in the basement of the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel and is accessible on Central Avenue south of Monroe Street and north of Adams.

According to the hotel, Melinda's Alley is open on Fridays and Saturdays. For now, the bar accepts cash only.

Good luck.
