Dearly beloved: Fans of the one, the only, the late Prince will gather at Pollack Tempe Cinemas on May 7 to honor the artist's work in film.

Shortly after news broke on April 21 that the pop culture icon died in his Minnesota home, Cult Classics announced plans to screen 1984's Purple Rain in Tempe as part of its monthly movie series spotlighting sometimes-overlooked gems. The Minneapolis-set musical drama starred the Purple One in his on-screen debut as a character crafted to showcase his talents. Its soundtrack includes many of the artist's iconic songs, including "When Doves Cry" and, obviously, "Purple Rain," and won the movie an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score.

Cult Classics and Zia Records (which, full disclosure, employs the husband of this post's author) will screen Purple Rain at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, in celebration of Prince's life and work. General admission tickets are $11, and VIP packages range in price from $20 to $40 and include various prints and/or T-shirts. For more details, see Cult Classics' Facebook event page
