The Flaming Lips to Perform at This Year's Arizona State Fair

We’ve got some good news for local fans of colorful and kooky rock band the Flaming Lips: they’re heading back to Phoenix this fall for a concert.

And here’s some even better news: you can see the show for free … sorta.

That’s because Wayne Coyne and company will be performing at this year’s Arizona State Fair, which offers nightly concerts by big-name artists and bands inside Veterans Memorial Coliseum that are free to attend for fair-goers, provided they've paid admission.

According to the Arizona State Fair’s Facebook, the Flaming Lips will perform on Saturday, October 22. And as is the case with most concerts taking place at the fair, general admission seating will be available on a "first come, first served" basism while reserved seating will be available for $20. Tickets go on sale on September 10. Meanwhile, admission to the fair itself is $6-$10 per person.

The band joins an already colorful lineup of concerts that will take place during this year's fair and include Iggy Azalea, Luis Coronel, Scotty McCreery, B.O.B., and Charlie Puth.

The Flaming Lips last played Phoenix back in 2013, when they were one of the featured bands at the True Music Festival in Scottsdale. Approximately four years before that, in 2009, the Lips headlined the at the McDowell Mountain Music Festival and put on an utterly spectacular performance featuring showers of confetti, costumed characters dancing onstage, and Coyne surfing through the crowd in his inflatable hamster ball.

Here’s hoping their show at the fair is equally as memorable and fun.
