http://www.brixwinespot.com Owners Bryan and Nancy make us feel like family every time we stop in to learn more about wine and to taste some of the samples from different wineries who host Brix's popular tastings. Now that we're boning up on our merlots and our Beaujolais, we're part of the fun "in" crowd at Bix, and so we always show up at Bryan and Nancy's monthly pot luck gathering. (The rest of the time, when we visit, we're encouraged to go ahead and order food from any of the nearby restaurants and enjoy it, along with a sparkling chardonnay, right there at our favorite new wine spot! Just like home! More >>
http://www.gordonbiersch.com Things to do in Glendale? Watch sports, eat, and drink. If sports don't float your boat -- but German-style craft brews do -- then Gordon Biersch has what you need. Conveniently located on the outskirts of University of Phoenix Stadium's parking lot (it's hard to get too far from sports in Glendale), Gordon Biersch is ideal for those football and hockey fans who crave a light, fruity märzen while nibbling on such entrées as Chilean sea bass and crab-stuffed shrimp before screaming themselves hoarse and pounding $8 light beers. The décor and atmosphere is decidedly upscale, even if certain Sundays bring in a rowdier crowd. Thankfully, TVs line the bar for those who want to watch the game, separating them from the people who are serious about their food. Gordon Biersch made their name on their beers, and they're still the draw. More >>
http://www.oggis.com North Glendale doesn’t have much to boast – that is, except for Oggi’s Pizza & Brewing Co. Located just north of the 101 on 67th Avenue and Beardsley Road, this bar and restaurant brews its own beer on the premises. The California-based brewery has earned over 40 medals in international, national, and regional competitions, so drinkers can’t go wrong with any of their varieties. A popular option is the Sunset Amber Ale, a darker and richer brew with a clean, dry finish, but the most decorated is the Black Magic Stout, a full-bodied brew with rich malty flavor and plenty of roasted barley character, which won gold at the 2010 World Beer Cup. Oggi’s also has an extensive menu of burgers, sandwiches, wraps, salads, appetizers, pasta, chicken entrées, and fish n’ chips. Best of the bunch, however, are the pizzas. There are 12 combinations to choose from, including North Shore (Hawaiian style) and Slam Dunk (Buffalo chicken). More >>
http://www.papagobrewing.com When you walk through the door of this casual neighborhood brewpub, located among the many shops and eateries of Papago Plaza, you'll be greeted by a larger-than-life-sized statue of a portly, jolly monk. If you love beer - especially beer from Belgium, where monks make the good stuff -- you should take that as a good sign. Along with several housemade varieties, there's a great selection of international brews on draft, plus a big assortment of bottles in the refrigerated cases. And if you get hungry, there's a full menu of pub grub, including sandwiches, wings, and pizza. More >>
http://www.pppatio.com It's for tourists, but this landmark cowboy steak house is no trap. Have your kids deputized by the "Old Timer," get your picture taken in Western duds and enjoy the country-western band. Then settle in for excellent, mesquite-grilled steaks. The two-pound porterhouse and New York strip are the best options. Cheesecake and apple pie are effective desserts. More >>
http://www.rockbottom.com This Ahwatukee meet-up destination has lots of great food options and plenty of space for a large party on the patio, but the beer is what really sets this national chain apart. Rock Bottom produces several thirst-quenching microbrews right there on site, all mixed by the restaurant's in-house brew master. In true brewery tradition, Rock Bottom even offers a cask-conditioned ale. Non-beer lovers in the group can check out the lengthy list of classic and creative cocktails. Take advantage of happy hour specials and late night eats every day of the week. More >>
http://www.rockbottom.com Just across the Loop 101 from the new Musical Instrument Museum, an otherwise nondescript shopping center provides an oasis of handcrafted beer brewed in North Phoenix. There's always a crisp wheat beer on tap, though the specific recipe shifts seasonally. And though the chain restaurant offers a full bar, it's the beer you come for, right? Don't miss out on a pint or three of the brewery's Udder Goodness when it's available. Brewmaster Brian Helton developed the robust, creamy brew at this location, and it garnered him a bronze award in the 2010 World Beer Cup's Sweet Stout category. That's no surprise, as the delicious drink has been bringing in accolades and awards for years -- though Helton says the Desert Trail Pale Ale remains his favorite. An outdoor patio provides ample views of the bustling commerce in the Deer Valley Marketplace shopping center. This Rock Bottom sells 64-ounce growlers of their beers, so you can take a batch home to boot. More >>
http://www.rockbottom.com Rock Bottom proves that it's possible to inject some local flavor into a chain bar. For instance, the North Scottsdale location features a half-dozen draft beers (including Saguaro stout, Raptor Red, and El Jefe hefeweizen), all of which are crafted at its in-house brewery. The upscale sports bar and restaurant also serves more than a dozen different imports and domestics in bottle form, so there's a little something for every kind of beer drinker. Happy hour runs from 4 to 7 p.m. every Monday through Saturday and provides patrons with $3.25 pints, $3 well drinks and house wines, and $5 appetizers. If you're short on cash, Texas Hold'em tourneys also take place every Monday night and offer gift certificates as prizes. But no matter how competitive the card games can get, Rock Bottom maintains a chillax vibe where you can partake in conversation without having to shout over noisy dance music or rowdy sports fans. http://www.rockbottom.com The Valley has its fair share of microbreweries but few can boast of receiving as many accolades as this chain, which won "Best Brewpub" honors at the 2008 National Beer Festival. Rock Bottom carries a classic lineup of ales and lagers, light to dark, so expect solid suds without any gimmicks. You can also find such pub grub standards as sliders and wings, as well as wood-fired pizzas and gourmet burgers. The location is situated close to the Peoria Sports Complex, making it a choice destination following a spring training game. More >>
