  • Baer

    Baer's Den

    925 E. Apache Blvd. Tempe, AZ 85281
480-517-9544 While it might be tough trying to find some elbow room at this tiny Tempe tavern -- which is usually packed to the rafters with hard-drinking scenesters -- one thing you won't have any trouble locating is the sports memorabilia that takes up practically every available inch of wall space. The place is a favorite hangout for fans of Boston sports teams, various umpires who visit the Valley during spring training, and local college kids cashing in on dirt-cheap drink specials. Just try to keep from knocking their drinks over as you navigate your way to the restroom. Read more about Baer's Den >>

    Bar 1

    3702 N. 16th St. Phoenix, AZ 85016
602-266-9001 Far from the leather bars, rainbow-flagged saunas, and diva-filled discotheques elsewhere, Bar 1 is casual gay nightlife that still knows how to have fun. Its easygoing, candlelit, and ridiculously immaculate atmosphere allows patrons to talk in their (gasp!) indoor voices whether relaxing by the fireplace, playing pinball, or unwinding on the outdoor patio. Fun-loving freaks can check their pants with one of the friendly barkeeps on Wednesday night for $1-off drinks and $6 pitchers of Long Island iced tea, or lose their shirts on Sunday for $1.25 drafts. Specials for the clad also are available. Read more about Bar 1 >>

    Bar Bianco

    609 E. Adams St. Phoenix, AZ 85004
602-528-3699 Pizzeria Bianco knows its pizzas are good. So good, in fact, that customers are willing to wait an average of an hour and half to get one. So, Bianco has conveniently instituted Bar Bianco as its next-door neighbor, with a cozy atmosphere that makes waiting for pizza a pleasant experience. Tour the historic home interior with a glass of wine or specialized brew, or start the noshing early with a tasty appetizer. But watch out for summertime sipping - the place gets as hot as the pizza oven next door. Read more about Bar Bianco >>

  • Baseline Pub

    Baseline Pub

    1825 E. Baseline Road Tempe, AZ 85283
480-838-5883 If it happens to be your first-ever time ever inside the Baseline Pub and co-owner Tom Panopoulos is about, don't be surprised if a free shot somehow winds up in front of you. It's earned the Tempe neighborhood joint a loyal patronage who dig its lovably well-worn atmosphere, the seemingly never-ending buckets of free peanuts, hanging out in the den-like game room (complete with ping-pong table) in the back, or the fact they can stash their purses or pool cues in a curtain-covered closet next to the bar without worry. Plus, those who visit often enough tend to be hip to when the next time the free "I'm a Pubber" T-shirts will be given out. Read more about Baseline Pub >>

  • Baseline Sports Bar

    Baseline Sports Bar

    201 E. Baseline Road Tempe, AZ 85283
480-730-9800 Owner AJ Hunter is something of a wild child with a taste for Harleys, a spicy personality, and a sexy flair. Ditto for her south Tempe establishment in the Mill Towne Center, where hawg heads and their steel steeds are always welcome to motor on in, especially during the well attended bike night on Wednesdays or the Sons of Anarchy dinners every Tuesday evening. Baseline Sports Bar also sells booty shorts and t-shirts emblazoned with its slogan “Represent Motherfucker” to its ribald and rabidly loyal army of patrons, whose crassness and depravity humorously clashes with the straight-laced aura of tony stained-wood, brass fixtures, and red brick. The bikers and bawdiness help add a bit of badass to an already eclectic mix of jockish preps hovering over platters of the bar’s notoriously fiery buffalo wings, hipster couples expertly flinging pucks on the shuffleboard game, or silver-haired retires from the surrounding neighborhood huddled in booths. We kinda doubt they’ll be picking up a t-shirt on their way out. Read more about Baseline Sports Bar >>

  • Bikini Lounge

    Bikini Lounge

1502 Grand Ave. Phoenix, AZ 85007
602-252-0472 Despite its name, the Bikini Lounge is not the place to gawk at busty bartenders in swim wear. Instead, Bikini Lounge is blend of every personality on the downtown spectrum. Friendly, long-term bartenders serve drinks to the business crowd, Trunk Space art venue hipster overflow and, ahem, more regular joes who have been visting the bar for years. The bar first opened its doors way back in 1946, making it the oldest watering hole in Phoenix. It maintains its '40s appeal, only making basic repairs throughout the years, while updating its overall vibe with professional DJs spinning six days a week, including 602'sdays and Bikini-a-Go-Go, where local favorites blast a mastered mix of music genres for packed crowds. • Bliss/reBar

    901 N. 4th St. Phoenix, AZ 85004
602-795-1792 Comfort food is the order of the day at this local downtown favorite. Grilled cheese sandwiches with provolone, thick slices of bacon and pear, and cheddary mac and cheese are tastefully tweaked and yet still say "home in my jammies!" Parmesan French Fries with a tomato-studded marinara sauce are a must-try, and pretty much any burger is served on Bliss's signature pretzel bun. The Bliss Burger comes with a side of spicy spinach salad that's worth the price of admission itself. Try shoestring fries with sea salt and vinegar; the Coconut Chicken, or the Sausage Ravioli-you won't be sorry. Or go for brunch on the weekends and enjoy $4 mimosas or sangria on the patio. You'll be in bliss! Read more about Bliss/reBar >>

  • Blooze Bar

    Blooze Bar

    12014 N. 32nd St. Phoenix, AZ 85028
602-788-4574 The Blooze Bar is the sort of place where NASCAR fans gather to cheer on their favorite drivers and more mature local bands land gigs. Local acts like Cellphone Cowboys and Lit Up play here on weekends -- except on Sundays, when Junior, Smoke, and the gang make left turns at high speeds on TV. Thursday is a great night to stop by the Blooze Bar, because the place is invaded by hepcats for the bar's well-regarded rockabilly night. Car clubs such as the Invaders usually bring along their vintage dragsters and cherry rides, creating an impromptu road show in the parking lot and temporarily merging the interests of the bar's otherwise disparate clientele. • Blue 32 Sports Grill

7000 East Mayo Boulevard Phoenix, AZ 85054
480-621-3080 Most local jock joints are stuck in junior varsity when compared to the big league digs, drinks, and dining at Blue 32. A sports bar with swagger and upscale atmosphere, it routs the competition in every aspect. Its roster of 50 different TVs, ranging from small to a whopping 65 inches projection screens, placed at every conceivable viewpoint means catching every single moment of every important game, even if you’re busying noshing on a plate of buffalo shrimp or carne asada in your cushy booth, ordering another round of drafts or crafts at the granite-topped bar, eyeballing the museum-like collection of sports memorabilia in the back, or headed to the restroom for a timeout. • Blue Hound Kitchen & Cocktails

    Blue Hound Kitchen & Cocktails

    2 E. Jefferson St. Phoenix, AZ 85004
602-258-0231 Located on the second floor of the Hotel Palomar at CityScape in downtown Phoenix, this true, urban gathering place, like its contemporary American fare, successfully blends sophistication and familiarity along with a solid selection of signature cocktails. Helmed by chef Stephen Jones, the restaurant’s dishes, with a focus on local ingredients, are available as small plates or in two sizes -- perfect for sharing or to mix-and-match. Start with crispy tater tots with smoked bacon or a flatbread of duck confit then move on to heartier dishes such as Jones’ version of the Mexican stew pozole, grilled rainbow trout, or the decidedly unique Kentucky fried quail. A bustling bar of reclaimed wood and mirrors, floor-to-ceiling windows in the dining area, and an outdoor patio make it easy to enjoy the city along with the food and drink. • Blue Martini Lounge

    Blue Martini Lounge

    5455 E. High St. Phoenix, AZ 85054
480-638-2583 We went for a Skinny Bitch (vodka, pomegranate juice, Truvia, and blueberry puree) and stayed for the Whiskey Chicken tenderloin and a big helping of Vuseuvious Cake (a sort of brownie and cheesecake combo that's to die for) for dessert. Plus a couple more Skinny Bitches, just because. But there's also live music and plenty of not skinny drinks in this plush, bright bar and lounge. Read more about Blue Martini Lounge >>
