http://www.charliesphoenix.com For years, this swishy CenPho saloon was known as the "lil bitty ol' pissant country place" that almost exclusively attracted only tight-Wranglered gay folk and Marlboro Mary's. But times have changed and so has Charlie's. A renovation last year has improved the décor and expanded its size considerably, offering a much larger dance floor on which a far more diverse crowd can either bust out with two-steppin' or shake their asses to high-energy dance, country music, and Latin-oriented jams all night. Some things haven't changed; there's still the always-muscular bartending staff and after-hours dancing until 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. Read more about this Phoenix bar or club >>
http://www.cheetahsaz.com Cheetahs Gentleman’s Club has everything a red-blooded, old-fashioned, all-American carnivore and strip club connoisseur could possibly want during a night out on the prowl at an exotic dance emporium. Red meat abounds on its menu of Mexican and American-style eats in the form of beef fajitas, thick cuts of prime rib on Thursdays, and plates of filet mignon on Fridays. An expansive wall of liquor behind the bar at the sinful CenPho den contains more than 60 different brands of booze, ranging from Courvoisier and other cognacs to 17 whiskey and scotch selections. And of course, there's a cadre of cuties who aim to tease while you relax on leopard-print couches downstairs, or live large up in the balcony VIP section. Just try not to choke on your steak when one pulls off an eye-popping downward spin from atop the 10-foot tall pole. Read more about this Phoenix bar or club >>
http://www.chillybombersbar.com During daytime hours, Chilly Bombers has more of a sports bar and grill vibe, featuring comfort food eats and all the big-time athletic action on dozen different HDTV screens. After the sun goes down, however, Chilly Bombers transforms into an off-the-hook dance club. Westside bros and their babes bump their humps to Top 40 and hip-hop or head to the bar to suck down a multicolored selection of specialty bomber drinks, like the sweet sounding Purple Gatorade and Gummy Bear shots. This place sure has a long legacy behind it: After opening in 1952 as the Red Diamond, this former residence has been known as Cholla Bay, Louie's, VJ's, and McGuires throughout the years. Things settled down when it became the blues joint Warsaw Wally's for a couple of decades, but switched into the 26th Street Blues Bar, and finally Chopper John's. Besides offering live music on Friday and Saturday nights, this nightspot has the usual pool tables, dart machines, and touch-screen video games. Just don't bust your head open on one of the low-hanging rafters. Read more about this Phoenix bar or club >>
http://www.christiescabaret.com/jm/ The overriding philosophy of topless strip club chain Christie’s Cabaret seems to be that bigger is, indeed, better. All three of its Valley locations dwarf competitors in terms of venue size and revenue alone, serving as the sand-kicking 900-pound heavyweight to everyone else’s pipsqueak runt. Then there’s the chain’s enormous emphasis on unrivaled opulence and posh amenities, illustrated by the multimillion-dollar lavish design of the East Phoenix location at 32nd Street and Van Buren. Imputed Italian marble tile covered every square inch of the 19,000 square-foot floorspace while busts of Caesar and numerous bronze nudes of Venus and Aphrodite frolic within a Dionysian-meets-museum setting. Three premium spirits tasting rooms and close to a half-dozen VIP room are throughout. Over at Christie’s Tempe, across the street from Arizona Mills Mall, ornate gold furnishings and Louis XIV style furniture dominate. Both are also big on bubbly, with individual champagne rooms and 75 high-end brands like Cristal, Dom Pérignon, and Taittinger ready to be popped. (The newest addition in Glendale, the old Pink Cabaret, was purchased in 2012 and a renovation is in the works to bring it in line with the rest of the empire.) And they also have dancers, too, all of which are model-quality and many from such far-flung continents as Europe and South America. There’s gotta someone to keep the money rolling in, right? http://www.cienagaves.com Equal parts art gallery, restaurant, and bar, this hip hangout serves some of the best high-end tequila(we love the Gran Centenario Rosangle, hibiscus-infused tequila) and the yummiest lobster tacos(breaded and fried lobster meat topped with cabbage and tangy sauce)in town. http://www.citizenrandd.com This cozy, intimate Scottsdale lounge is all about its craft cocktails: a lambic sorbet made from raspberry-flavored beer, then turned into a slushy by an old-fashioned paint-can shaker; a berry-and-lemonade punch made with hand-stirred dry ice; and a gin-and-tonic cooked up in a double boiler from 100-proof vodka distilled over dried juniper berries, lemon rinds, and cardamom. There are drinks here made from cotton candy, or fire, or with tiny bottles of bitters inverted into them. If that’s not exclusive enough for you, check this out: one telephones the bouncer to be let into this 28-seat lounge. If there’s room, he’ll come get you and escort you into R&D’s cozy interior, where you’ll enjoy drinks made table-side with hard-to-find ingredients you’ve never tasted alongside your hooch before. http://www.cjstalleyspub.com The folks at Cj's Talley's Pub tend to be a close-knit bunch. The banter between the patrons and the barkeeps is priceless, with everyone cracking jokes about the latest happenings in the social circle, ordering up rounds of Bud Light and Fat Tire, and sharing belly laughs. The hostess is happy to switch channels between sporting matches, and she doesn"t even need to ask most of the crew what they want to drink. The bar comes stocked with normal bar accouterments, like a pool table and bartop games, but the real allure is the friendly vibe; spend a few minutes in Talley's and you'll be amazed how quickly the bartender picks up your name. http://www.ckgrill.com This eclectic Ahwatukee establishment functions as both a sports joint and live music venue, offering the best of both worlds to its funky and family-oriented clientele. A total of 40 different high-definition flatscreens feature all the major sports packages and are bound to have whatever big game you're seeking. http://www.clancysarizona.com The American Midwest meets the Irish cliffs at Clancy's Pub. Banners proclaiming loyalty to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Omaha Nighthawks, and Green Bay Packers share space alongside Guinness clovers and Killian's flags. Night owls recline on green leather stools, watching Bruce Campbell on Burn Notice while sipping draught beers and snacking on burger specials. In keeping with a Midwest sensibility, the vibe here is humble and unassuming, though the right game brings out the cheers and whoops from the blue-collar crowd. Saint Patrick's Day emerald clothing is certainly welcome, but no one is going to differentiate between that and Packers green, and Cornhuskers red is certainly okay, too. Frogs in gumball machines, potted plants on tables, and men with colorful bananas are some of the eccentric visual elements on display at this decidedly eclectic Scottsdale gin joint. Despite what its name implies, this neighborhood tavern has lasted more than 25 years, serving up spirits and suds from a storefront wedged between a laundromat and taco shop. The walking-distance locals are as diverse as the jukebox playlist, which ranges from Frank Sinatra and ABBA to a-ha and Zeppelin. Drinkers suck down bargain booze while Scotty the barkeep lines the empties on the bar, keeps watch over the quarter game (drop a coin into a jug of water -- if it lands in the shot glass at the bottom, your next drink is discounted) and doles out raffle tickets for the "Cash for Customers" game, in which the winning number means more green and another night of strange times at the Closing Soon Saloon. A beautifully macabre brainchild of downtown Phoenix club guru Steven Rodgers, Palazzo once upon a time served as a constant haunt of the Goth music groupies. These days, however, this dramatic Central Avenue den perched between Amsterdam and Club DWNTWN is used by a different set of souls altogether. Every weekend it transforms into teeming discoteca destination for local chicas y hombres spending their Saturday evenings with Latin music in their ears and close-quarters activities on their minds. Although Palazzo’s balcony hasn’t gotten much use anymore, as its wrought iron railings are merely for decoration purposes only, its gleaming travertine dance floor definitely does, whether it’s salsa songs causing elegant steps between partners or the energetic moves like twerking being incited by reggaeton and merengue flowing from the elevated DJ booth. While a certain segment of the population digs mopey Goth gods like Bauhaus, were guessing that you’ll never catch anyone at Palazzo’s Saturday night shindigs sporting pleather or latex wear. http://www.clubredrocks.com Club Red hosts a wide variety of shows, from multi-band tribute nights to DJs spinning all genres to some of the hottest hip-hop gigs in town. The musical lineups are often too much for one venue, and on those nights, Club Red and its sister bar, The Red Owl, split up bands between the two halls, each equipped with a fully stocked bar. The vibe can find anyone from hair-metal rockers to hip-hop heads chilling out at the bar or taking a break from the live sounds to visit the patio, and the variety of musical acts is likely to spur plenty of interesting conversation. To say that this CenPho showclub and gay vaquero bar is colorful would be an understatement. A lively variety of neon lights and multicolored decorations mix with a vibrant vibe and diverse clientele that visit Zarape on a nightly basis. Its female illusionist revues blend sass, style, music, and comedy into playful drag spectaculars featuring hits from such popular Latina divas as Shakira and Gloria Trevi being lip-synched by local drag artists, who also add plenty of wit, charm, and well-timed raunch into their trills. But when the revues end and the spotlight dims, these colorful characters don't vacate the premises. They're just as apt to hang out and interact with the cowboy-booted caballeros that stop by Zarape to spend the evening dancing to salsa, cumbia, banda and norteño music.
