http://www.earlsrestaurants.com The only things Canada usually sends to the Valley are Arctic cold fronts and snowbirds. But now this popular north-of-the-border chain has settled here, and north Scottsdalians will be pleased. The stylish, around-the-globe fare ranges from chicken Hunan to first-rate pizzas and baby-back ribs. Finish up with the apple and raspberry cobbler. Read more about this Phoenix bar or club >>
For most of the week, this east-side discoteca remains cold and dark, hidden behind a chain-link fence and locked up tighter than Fort Knox. On Friday and Saturday nights, however, the place comes alive with colored lights, hundreds of dancers, and Latin beats. The interior is home to a rollicking sea of dancing humanity, including plenty of caballeros y damas. Though the bar offers good selection of tequilas and south-of-border beers, the focus of El Capri is more on dancing than drinking. A steady stream of bachata, banda, and cumbia is pumped out by the DJs, while norteño bands occasionally perform. Gentlemen typically sport sharp cowboy garb and ostrich-skin boots, while ladies tend toward tight dresses, low-cut blouses, and skintight jeans. Even if you don't get to bailar with a bonita babe by night's end, chances are you'll eventually run into her mingling about or at the Mexican food joint down the street. http://www.eldoradobarandgrill.com A magnet for bikers, barflies, and the blue-collar brigade, this rough-around-the-edges roadhouse in south Scottsdale features a nightly cast of characters that are just as colorful as the neon beer signs on its walls. From slick-looking billiards sharks engaging in nine-ball on the tables to the hippies and housewives playing board games around the horseshoe-shaped bar, the El Dorado is always bustling with activity. Its live entertainment schedule is just as energetic, with karaoke taking place five times a week and a popular blues jam on Wednesdays. Patrons also pack the place for ladies night on Tuesday, which offers 50-cent beers, free pool, and just as many guys in attendance as girls. Read more about this Phoenix bar or club >>
http://www.elhefetacos.com Along with an ingenious invention called table taps, self-serve beer taps of Coors Light and Dos Equis at each booth, there are a few decent food offerings to go along with the good times in this Mexican-themed bar and restaurant in Scottsdale’s entertainment district. The Sonoran-style menu, created by former Noca sous chef Steven Smith, features a humble offering of surprisingly wallet-friendly traditional standards with a few twists. Satisfying fare includes the macho nachos and the house made churros, but the best dish is the least Mexican one: the hamburger. Enjoy one paired with a selection of several alcoholic offerings from El Hefe (the name a play on the word jefe, the Spanish word for "boss”), in an atmosphere more metrosexual than macho. http://www.epchandler.com El Palacio has been a Chandler mainstay for over three decades, they celebrated their 30th anniversary in 2012. El Palacio serves up the usual mix of Mexican standard accompanied by a 60 ounce margarita known simply as "The Don." Read more about this Phoenix bar or club >>
Enoch's Sports Lounge is nowhere near as ancient as its Biblical namesake, but the amicably scruffy dive on the edges of Peoria has seen plenty of mileage since opening around two decades ago. Most noticeably, its formerly fire engine-red carpet is now a threadbare salmon from years of the Enoch’s faithful’s feet padding around the sprawling premises. Pony-tailed pool wizards traipse around any of the four billiards tables or amble over to a set of stained wooden lockers to stow their gear, while drinkers hop down from cafeteria-style metal stools welded to funky-looking island tables to hit up Carolyn and the other amicable cocktail-slinging divas for another round. Said crew can also supply salty snacks, and tickets for either the daily raffle for half-priced drinks or the Arizona Lottery variety. If patrons somehow get lucky in a more illicit fashion, however, they can head for the men’s room, which is replete with a “health care convenience center,” better known as a condom machine.
