    El Dorado Bar & Grill

    8708 E. McDowell Road Scottsdale, AZ 85257
    480-945-2606

http://eldorado-bar-grill.com/ A magnet for bikers, barflies, and the blue-collar brigade, this rough-around-the-edges roadhouse in south Scottsdale features a nightly cast of characters that are just as colorful as the neon beer signs on its walls. From slick-looking billiards sharks engaging in nine-ball on the tables to the hippies and housewives playing board games around the horseshoe-shaped bar, the El Dorado is always bustling with activity. Its live entertainment schedule is just as energetic, with karaoke taking place five times a week and a popular blues jam on Wednesdays. Patrons also pack the place for ladies night on Tuesday, which offers 50-cent beers, free pool, and just as many guys in attendance as girls. Read more about this Phoenix bar or club >>

  • El Hefe Super Macho Taqueria

    El Hefe Super Macho Taqueria

    4425 N. Saddlebag Trail Scottsdale, AZ 85251
    480-945-6200

http://elhefescottsdale.com/ Along with an ingenious invention called table taps, self-serve beer taps of Coors Light and Dos Equis at each booth, there are a few decent food offerings to go along with the good times in this Mexican-themed bar and restaurant in Scottsdale’s entertainment district. The Sonoran-style menu, created by former Noca sous chef Steven Smith, features a humble offering of surprisingly wallet-friendly traditional standards with a few twists. Satisfying fare includes the macho nachos and the house made churros, but the best dish is the least Mexican one: the hamburger. Enjoy one paired with a selection of several alcoholic offerings from El Hefe (the name a play on the word jefe, the Spanish word for "boss”), in an atmosphere more metrosexual than macho. • El Hefe Super Macho Taqueria

    El Hefe Super Macho Taqueria

    640 S. Mill Ave. Tempe, AZ 85281
    480-257-2797

http://elhefetempe.com/ The Tempe spinoff of this “super macho taqueria” features everything that its sister location in Scottsdale is famous for – from the array of eight signature tacos, Sonoran-inspired “Hefe Hot Dogs,” and potent bebidas – only with double the floorspace. That means there’s twice as much room for the lunch and dinner crowds, as well as everyone who comes out at night for the frenetic and often packed fiestas that feature waitresses dancing on the bars, sombreros and confetti poppers everywhere, wall-to-wall electro music, and a nonstop streaming videos on HDTVs, and dudes dressed in Zebra costumes. It’s muy loco, to say the least. Read more about this Phoenix bar or club >>

  • Electric Ballroom

    Electric Ballroom

    7443 E. 6th Ave. Scottsdale, AZ 85251
    480-970-1222

http://www.ebscottsdale.com Inspired in part by the notorious ‘90s-era local music venue of the same name, the Electric Ballroom mashes up rock ‘n’ roll verve with heavy riffs of Scottsdale glam and boozy decadence into its cozy club setting. Photos of guitar gods like Lemmy and Joe Strummer dot the velvet-flecked walls, concert posters and band stickers cover the men’s room, and a pair of in-house stripper poles allow for the uninhibited to grind away like extras in an Aerosmith video. Both DJs and hard rock bands of the metal, prog, and punk variety perform under colored spotlights on an elevated stage while fans watch from the dance floor or one of the few VIP booths, either head-banging or fist-pumping, depending on what’s blasting over the sound system that night. • Elite Cabaret Gentleman

Elite Cabaret Gentleman's Club at 910 Live

    910 N. McClintock Drive Tempe, AZ 85281
    480-966-0707

You'd be hard-pressed to find a single strip club in the Valley that doesn't feature rock 'n' roll blaring as exotic dancers bump and grind away. Elite Cabaret at 910 Live is no exception, as its music mix is heavy on classic jams from the likes of Gary Glitter, Cheap Trick, and The Doors. Thing is, this Tempe strip club will do you one better: There's an open-air concert space in the back hosting live rock gigs. Earlier this year, the proprietors of 910 Live transformed the interior of the nightclub and venue, which once served as infamous rock bar Boston's, into a ritzy topless club drenched in pink and purple hues and boasting multiple stages and swank furnishings. The live music moved outdoors, where cabanas and seating ring a 40-square-foot stage. Since the changeover, it's featured appearances from rock icons like George Lynch of Dokken, who performed in April, and former Sex Pistol Glen Matlock and Blondie drummer Clem Burke's The International Swingers in May. Best of all, concert admission gets you into the cabaret, where you can have your own personal after-party. Read more about this Phoenix bar or club >>

  • Enoch

    Enoch's Sports Lounge

    6750 W. Peoria Ave. Peoria, AZ 85345
    623-878-6296

Enoch's Sports Lounge is nowhere near as ancient as its Biblical namesake, but the amicably scruffy dive on the edges of Peoria has seen plenty of mileage since opening around two decades ago. Most noticeably, its formerly fire engine-red carpet is now a threadbare salmon from years of the Enoch’s faithful’s feet padding around the sprawling premises. Pony-tailed pool wizards traipse around any of the four billiards tables or amble over to a set of stained wooden lockers to stow their gear, while drinkers hop down from cafeteria-style metal stools welded to funky-looking island tables to hit up Carolyn and the other amicable cocktail-slinging divas for another round. Said crew can also supply salty snacks, and tickets for either the daily raffle for half-priced drinks or the Arizona Lottery variety. If patrons somehow get lucky in a more illicit fashion, however, they can head for the men’s room, which is replete with a “health care convenience center,” better known as a condom machine.
