Big Fish Pub

Big Fish Pub

The largish stage located off to the side of this landmark bar and music venue has been graced by plenty of big bands over the years.
Flicka's

Flicka's

Walk into Flicka's and you just might mistake the place for some beachside cantina in Cabo San Lucas instead of a roadside cantina in south Scottsdale.

  • Ice House Tavern

    Ice House Tavern

    3855 E. Thomas Road Phoenix, AZ 85018
    602-244-1179

http://www.myspace.com/icehousetavernphx Described by co-owner Daryl Chester as the "only bar in Arizona connected to an ice rink," this vintage East Phoenix dive (which dates back to the early '60s) boasts a couple of other distinctions as well: Not only is it the only still-standing portion of the bygone Tower Plaza Mall, it's become a regular stop for the hipster crowd, who come for weekend shows by Valley bands or to rub elbows with weekend hockey league players. Entertainment isn't limited to just local musicians strutting their stuff, as you can watch would-be skaters at the adjacent Arcadia Ice Arena through a large window or partake in the steel tip dart tournament every Friday. • Ice Pics Video Bar

    Ice Pics Video Bar

3108 E. Mc Dowell Road Phoenix, AZ 85008
    602-267-8707

http://www.icepicsvideobar.com According to both the bartenders and regulars at this Phoenix gay hangout, Ice Pics is where people can be themselves -- be they rich or poor, old or young -- and enjoy a night out without worrying about what they're wearing or what tax bracket they fall into. Entertainment abounds via the multiple television screens playing music videos or from the stage area in the back where female illusionist revues and strip shows are presented throughout the week. While there's no kitchen to speak of, the Red Devil restaurant next door can deliver food to customers who want to soak up the two-for-one drinks that are available until 8 p.m. each night. Still concerned that you might be a bit over the legal limit? Fear not. The bar provides free rides home from local cab companies, so you can be sure that you'll arrive home safe and sound. • Iguana Mack

    Iguana Mack's Arizona Roadhouse

1371 N. Alma School Road Chandler, AZ 85224
    480-899-6735

http://www.iguanamacks.com It used to be that a roadhouse was a simple oasis of comfort on a long rugged road or trail-a rough-around-the-edges joint that served all of your needs. These great old landmarks are mostly gone, but Iguana Mack's provides their spirit with a fine selection of cold beer, juicy steaks, and crusty, cut-loose entertainment. A true homage to the roadhouse, Mack's is a wonderful place to stop for shared foods (don't miss the Party Pleaser Platter, a sampler of the menu's greater tastes) or for simple, delicious dinnertime fare (like the Grilled Steak Salad, always fresh and crisp). • Inner City Youth Center

    Inner City Youth Center

    17 S. 32nd St. Phoenix, AZ 85034

http://iseewhysee.blogspot.com Getting to this underground music venue housed in a South Phoenix warehouse is a bit of an experience, which shouldn’t come as a surprise given its off-the-radar nature. If you’re lucky enough to get directions from a local band or someone else in the know, however, it’s definitely worth the journey. Punk, hardcore, and sludge metal are the name of the game at ICYC, as bands play on a ramshackle stage while the crowd sits on thrift store seating, stands on chairs, or slams around the mosh pit. A jumble of colorful graffiti and urban art murals decorate the walls and is almost as bizarre-looking as some of the gutterpunks and indie kids that turn out for shows.
