http://www.fairmont.com/scottsdale/GuestServices/Restaurants/Stone+Rose.htm Situated far from the club hubbub of Old Town, the Stone Rose Lounge is a chic sanctuary cloistered within the center of the Fairmont Princess Resort. Divided into outdoor and indoor areas, the al fresco portion of this tranquil nightspot is dominated by ample amounts of plush seating, as well as a gigantic, cube-shaped outside bar and 10,000-gallon reflecting pool. Oh yeah, and the scenery is picturesque as all get out. The Spanish colonial architecture of the upscale resort tends to take on an amber glow at sunset, as does the illuminated bar top made from marble. Inside ain't too shabby, either, as edgy, modernist architecture provides a backdrop for beat-blasting DJs spinning up downtempo tracks for scenesters, fashionistas, and the North Scottsdale elite. Time has seemingly ground to a halt inside the Tallyho as the look of this North Scottsdale neighborhood dive hasn't changed much since it debuted back in 1969. Over the past four decades, longtime owner Lois Richards has stubbornly held onto such kitschy touches as the stained glass windows, red vinyl booths, and wrought iron fixtures, refusing to change with the times. It's something of a keen throwback to the era when Bill Close read the nightly news, providing patrons with a trip through time to go along with their drinks. Although the Tallyho is equally steadfast in refraining from having a happy hour ("We've always been happy here from open to close," quips one female bartender), well drinks are only $3.50 and most bottled beers go for $3. Sadly, there aren't any old school brews like Hamm's or Löwenbräu available. Read more about this Phoenix bar or club >>
http://www.taverngrillescottsdale.com There's nothing quite like cozying up in a woodsy tavern on a cold day and embracing your inner glutton. Good luck finding a day like that here in the Valley, but you can capture the same ambiance at Scottsdale's Tavern Grille, right off the 101. Blue collar regular Joes and Scottsdale suburbanites dine on pub grub and casually toss peanut shells on the floor. Seriously. The Tavern welcomes it. Sip one (or more) of the bar's dozens of on tap brews as you watch the game on one of the spot's many flatscreens. Save some cash from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. everyday at happy hour, with $2 longneck bottles, $2.25 drafts and $8 pitchers as you enjoy a soundtrack of classic rock tunes. Those very rock stars peer down from portraits in approval. Read more about this Phoenix bar or club >>
http://www.tiltedkilt.com What goes better with cold beer? How about a slew of big screens, a full menu of custom cocktails, and comely waitresses dressed in miniskirts? Such is the mix of things at Tilted Kilt's North Scottsdale location, which functions as a sports bar and Irish pub rolled into one. Its Emerald Isle influences are manifested in a vast selection of cheekily named vittles (like the Fat Bastard's Meatloaf Sandwich), as well as various import beers on tap (Smithwick's, Guinness, Harp) and a host of Celtic tschotchkes decorating the walls. Its whiskey selection also puts other bars to shame (featuring such single-malt delights as Lagavulin, Laphroaig, and Dalmore) and an atmosphere that makes you want to bust out with your best Irish drinking tune. http://www.tommybahama.com The Bahamas experience weather that's drastically different than we do here in the Valley, but with a little air conditioning and rum, Tommy Bahama's Restaurant and Bar recreates an island atmosphere in an upscale, yet casual setting. If you're looking for an excuse to indulge in a piña colada while shopping at Scottsdale's Kierland Commons, look no further. And they're not going to try to sell you Hawaiian shirts, either. Instead, bartenders offer up craft brews, mixed cocktails and a selection of wines, with happy hour (what they call "Island Time") from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. every day. http://www.facebook.com/chopandwok Though the address would indicate this spot is located in North Scottsdale, its smallish size, rock 'n' roll feel, and funky décor make it feel like a bohemian basement bar on Manhattan's Lower East Side. Run by renowned punker Jamie Monistat (of Blanche Davidian fame), the Wok Star's walls are covered with gig posters, broken guitars, dented cymbals, album covers, paper lanterns, and other odd ephemera. Red lights cast an eerie glow on thrift-store antiques as a youngish crowd sips spirits and troubadours strum up a storm at one end of the bar during the Thursday night open mic session. Behind the cement bar, covered with seashells and handprints, Monistat and other drink-slingers offer more than 30 beers on tap (with 50 more available by the bottle) as well as plenty of other alcoholic delights. When tummies start rumbling, folks head across a TV-lined breezeway for some egg rolls or other Sino snackings at the adjacent Chinese food joint. Read more about this Phoenix bar or club >>
http://www.zincbistroaz.com A fabulous-looking and -feeling place for fabulous-looking folks not afraid to shell out big bucks for Parisian comfort food. Many dishes are, well, fabulous, including macaroni gratin, croque monsieur, onion soup gratinée, smoked salmon crepes and pork chop choucroute. Prepare for lots of butter and cream. http://www.zippssportsgrills.com True, Zipps is a sports bar, with TVs in every direction you turn, but it's a tasteful one, with old fashioned patterned tin wall panels, exposed brick, and cherry wood accents. Better yet the big game isn't the only reason to come here. Even when there's nothing to watch, we're happy digging in to Zipps' juicy, double-stacked burgers, fat foccacia sandwiches, and spicy wings. Read more about this Phoenix bar or club >>
