http://www.citycheers.com/templates/one/index.php?vid=48008 An all-day happy hour, bodacious bartending staff, and a variety of games and pool tables make this colorful West Valley watering hole a favorite destination at different times of the day and night. Patrons run the gamut, from the blue-collar crowd and neighborhood regulars who stop by after the workday is done, to the beautiful babes that pack the place on nights and weekends. Beat-mixing DJs rock the turntables with Latin grooves and hip-hop anthems Thursday through Saturday and the occasional live band stops by, too. Read more about this Phoenix bar or club >>
So you think you can sing? This West Phoenix watering hole, which offers karaoke action seven nights a week, might just fit the bill. An enthusiastic crowd cheers on regulars who holler out nu-metal hits and hip-hop chartbusters along with the usual tear-jerking ballads from a catalog of more than 50,000 songs. In between turns on the mic, try your hand at billiards, darts, or perhaps some touch-screen video game action, or maybe just read some of the informative-yet-profane graffiti in the restrooms. http://www.myspace.com/famoussamsglendale Featuring darts, pool tables, poker nights, hot wings and more, this Famous Sam's westside hangout is the stomping grounds for cheery neighborhood locals just wantin' to relax with a brewski and watching the latest sports action on multiple high-definition TVs. A variety of live music and DJ nights also keep the joint jumping throughout the week, including rock bands and hip-hop nights on Saturdays. A weekly karaoke night every Sunday may even arouse the singer in you -- after a few drinks, of course. Read more about this Phoenix bar or club >>
You won't find any madmen or mental patients sharing spirits inside this West Valley cocktail lounge, just an interesting mix of neighborhood drinkers and local Latinos. The Valley is a massive melting pot of Hispanic and Anglo cultures, and the Funny Farm is a prime spot to witness cultural commingling. The Farm once functioned as a cozy corner dive bar but has since evolved into a discoteca and lounge, providing patrons with the best of both worlds. Dollar bills are stapled above the bar, as they are in many a watering hole; only at this bar, those bank notes are scribbled with regulars' names and salacious sayings en español. Virgin Mary statues and other Catholic trinkets are arranged on a corner shelf next to vintage beer signs, and the jukebox contains both cumbias and classic rock hits. The señorita servers also pop the tops off such cervezas as Tecate and old-fashioned American suds such as Budweiser. Read more about this Phoenix bar or club >>
http://www.jayscocktails.com Talk about old school. Jay's Cocktail Lounge has been around since 1955, moving to its current location in 1977. With dark paneling, brickwork, and wrought-iron scrollwork that weaves its way around the bar from the ceiling, the interior of this cash-only dive could have easily doubled as the bar in Quentin Tarantino's Jackie Brown. Low-key locals hang out at leather-edged tables where the clacking of billiard balls, 1950s rock 'n' roll on the jukebox, and the occasional bleeping of the Galaga game compete with the sound of blaring TV sets. The bartenders are both friendly and cool, serving up $2 PBRs and nightly drink deals during Man Night Mondays and Surprise Saturdays. And with a turtle tank, animal rescue fund jar, and a bowl of kibble set out for the stray cat that's been hanging around, Jay's Cocktail Lounge is a classic with a heart of gold. http://www.legirlscabaret.net Location, as they say, is everything. And Le Girls Cabaret’s plumb spot straddling the Tempe and Phoenix border illustrates this axiom. It’s in close proximity to the jockish alpha males of Arizona State University, hipsters from downtown Tempe, tourists flying through Sky Harbor, and Hispanic from East Phoenix barrios. In other words, the same sort of cats you’d find rubbing elbows and popping bottles inside Le Girls neon and velvet-heavy on an average weekend night. What unites ‘em? A common love for watching model-quality women– who could be walking runways in haute couture instead of catwalks -- simulate the most intimate of acts for on stage and in laps, and probably later in some tempestuous fantasies. Le Cabaret’s popular “Four for $20” deals also provides them more holla for their dollars, as an Alexander Hamilton gets an epic lap-dance lasting for a quartet of songs, instead of the usual two-and-out at other clubs. Plus, there’s a free tee shirt to be, which comes in handy in case when wiping the sweat from brows. Read more about this Phoenix bar or club >>
Whatever visions come to mind when hearing the name Scoreboard Tavern, leave them behind. This was once a watering hole for athletic-minded West Valley residents but is now a hangout for neighborhood Hispanics, complete with a shrine to the Virgin Mary in the corner. With a sunken bar trimmed in blue leather and mirrors running down the length of one wall, the Scoreboard Tavern is a little joint that's big enough to hold a couple of pool tables and a projection TV showing the latest juego de fútbol - the only sport that's actually broadcast in this sports bar. Blue-collar regulars kick back banda music as it pulsates from the jukebox, with the occasional track from The Eagles tossed in when a gringo wanders through the doors. Drink specials? No aquí. Cheap bottles of Bud Light are the favorite. Twisting off of the cap is the responsibility of the drinkers, not the barkeep. And if hunger strikes in the Scoreboard Tavern's cash-only confines, hit the ATM in the corner and grab a bag of dried shrimp bits or, better yet, visit the taco truck across the street for un burrito delicioso. http://www.stratusaz.com This West Phoenix event space located in a converted warehouse is a rather versatile beast, having hosted a gamut of events from mariachi concerts and weddings to epic DJ festivals and heavy-duty rock shows. It’s also a sexy beast, featuring expensive lighting and sound rigs, ornately chic decor, plasma screens in the glossy bathrooms, and a lengthy bar aglow with LEDs. Stratus is akin to a Scottsdale club, right down to the disco ball hanging from the ceiling and the red carpet unfurled outside the front door during special events. The staff can also wheel out a mobile stripper pole, which came in handy (and leggy) for the auditions for a potential reality show about local exotic dancers that once occurred here, but it's a prop that doesn’t see any use when a quinceañera occasionally takes place at Stratus. At least, we certainly hope not. Read more about this Phoenix bar or club >>
Wild Bill's is a west-side watering hole where the party starts daily at 8 a.m. when doors open, and doesn't cease until last call looms. While the low-lit interior is a mash-up of décor details (light and dark woods, glass block and brick, buffet chairs, and western whatnot) the outdoor patio is one big party scene, with plenty of seating, smoking, and celebrating. The locals are a blue-collar, tight-knit bunch, downing cheap brews (chased with bags of Cracker Jack), distributing cartons of smokes to friends in need, or trying to outdo their barstool buddies on their knowledge of grizzly bears. With darts, video games, free pool on Sunday and Monday, live entertainment, and nightly poker tournaments, there's plenty to keep a newcomer occupied. Read more about this Phoenix bar or club >>
