http://www.32shea.com A standalone building in the parking lot of a strip mall on 32nd Street and Shea, the intersection from which the eatery gets its name, this cozy little breakfast, lunch, and dinner spot is the kind of restaurant where you could easily spend hours. There is a drive-thru, a patio (larger than the restaurant), and inside, a small bar, a handful of dark wood tables, and an eclectic mix of music overhead. In addition to killer coffee and cocktails, there’s a small menu of easy and affordable dishes, including a satisfying sandwich called the OMG, featuring prosciutto, mascarpone, and figs, and a light yet wonderfully creamy artichoke and spinach dip. And if you like the hazelnut spread Nutella (and who doesn’t?) owner Rebecca Golden will add it to just about anything. More >>
http://www.bergiescoffee.com Brian and Bruce Bergeson founded this cozy coffeehouse in the historic Heritage District of Gilbert in 2008. Since opening in early 2009 they've been busy not only brewing great cups of joe but also roasting their own unique blends of beans. That's right, at Bergie's you'll not only find a great place to grab a drink and relax with a book, but also a quality cup of custom roasted coffee -- courtesy of the brothers themselves. Bergie's import their raw beans from Central America, South America, Africa, and Indonesia and roasts them in small batches to ensure they always achieve the desired flavor. As with any carefully crafted product, freshness is key and that's why the folks a Bergie's promise their beans are never more than 14 days old. We love enjoying their special roasts on the spacious outdoor patio, though it's hard not to love the charming cottage that houses the whole operation. More >>
http://www.berthascafe.com We've never met Bertha, but we're always telling everyone how much we love her. Mostly what we love is her Club Sandwich, loaded with oven-roasted turkey, smoked ham, applewood bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo and cheddar cheese. We are also partial to the Ham and Havarti Panini, a tasty tangle of smoked ham, arugula, tomatoes, mustard and havarti cheese. Who says you can't love someone you don't know? Not anyone who's had one of Bertha's fresh salads, or her delicious home-baked peanut butter cookies. More >>
http://www.carmelsbreakfast.com This Central Phoenix coffee house – located in a vintage 1940s house on Camelback Road in Arcadia – is a favorite for its warm, cozy interior, interesting artwork, and freshly brewed java (using Lux beans). But what has us returning again and again is the full menu of breakfast and lunch items. Carmel’s Coffee and Bakery does of course have classic baked goods like scones, muffins, and croissants, but it also serves omelets, open-faced tartines, breakfast burritos, classic breakfast plates with eggs and toast, sweet and savory crepes, French toast croissants with real maple syrup, and croissant sandwiches with bacon and egg. Breakfast is served all day, but lunch items like BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, mac and cheese muffins, grilled cheese, and quiche are added later in the day. When the weather permits, Carmel’s has plenty of patio space available to sit and savor your morning coffee or to recharge while enjoying a midday meal. More >>
http://www.cartelcoffeelab.com/cartel-5th-ave-scottsdale-az/ If you live in Phoenix and haven’t heard of Cartel Coffee Lab, you’ve probably been living under a Starbucks-shaped rock. Or maybe you just don’t drink java. This local coffee roaster is the best known in the café scene, and chances are you’ve sipped their coffee somewhere around town without realizing it, like Jobot Coffee Shop, which brews its own custom roast. But true fans go straight to the source – one of Cartel Coffee Lab’s four locations in Tempe, Scottsdale, Downtown Phoenix, and Tucson – to get their fix of Black Market Espresso. Cartel sources its four-bean blend from a single high-elevation farm in the Sul de Mina region of Brazil, where it goes through a natural pulping process on-site before leaving for its final destination, your cup. Once Cartel gets its hands on the green beans, they’re roasted to create a bold-flavored coffee with citrus and chocolate notes and a dash of sweetness. More >>
