http://www.blueadobegrille.com The flavors of New Mexico have landed in Scottsdale, celebrating the state's signature Hatch chiles. While a few dishes (carne adovada and red chile posole) pack some serious heat, milder mouths will do just fine with tenderloin rellenos, pork tamales or a beguiling chorizo-stuffed chicken in amaretto-mushroom sauce. http://www.eddiev.com The Valley's premier seafood restaurant, one of three locations, the other two being in Austin, Texas. It's on the edge of the frickin' desert here in posh DC Ranch, but who cares? The Gulf oysters are superb, the Georges Bank scallops are off the chain, and the butterfish will give you the culinary equivalent of the Big O. When it comes to dessert, order the Godiva cake. And check out the V Lounge for some pre- or post-scarf imbibing, and live entertainment nightly. More >>
http://www.handlebarj.com Cowpokes and country music fans have been moseying into this honky-tonk hideout since the 1960s, back when Waylon Jennings was a regular and patrons rode up on horseback. While the surrounding North Scottsdale neighborhood may have become a little more upscale in the ensuing decades, things have stayed pretty much the same at this saloon and steakhouse about 15 minutes north of Old Town. Handlebar-J’s sprawling bar still beckons boot-scooters and broncobusters, while cowboy hats still line the rafters, and both porterhouses and beefy burgers still sizzle in the kitchen. Grab your boots and take a swing on the enormous dance floor where twangy tunes are provided by the Herndon Brothers Band, fronted by Nashville recording artist Ray Herndon, most nights a week. Or if boot-scootin' ain't your saddlebag, pardner, sample some of the barbecue drenched in homemade sauce or amble on out to the patio and taste your tallboy in the great outdoors. Shucks, you might even wind up drinking next to a celebrity. Crooners like Lyle Lovett, Kris Kristofferson, and Vince Gill have all stopped by in the past. More >>
http://www.kierlandcommons.com Welcome to the Valley of the Sun’s future, where phrases like “live-work” and “mixed-use” suddenly—finally!—apply. Completed in 2000, Kierland Commons is the city’s first-ever “lifestyle center,” a 600,000-square-foot Scottsdale development that includes shopping, dining, entertainment, office space and upscale loft condominiums. Originally created to serve as the community gathering place for the master-planned community of Kierland, the mixed-use facility shares acreage with the Westin Kierland Resort and its 27-hole Kierland Golf Club, so that one can dine, golf, shop, and live all within a square city mile. Home to 75 department and specialty stores (among them Anthropologie, Coach, Crate and Barrel, and J. Crew) and restaurants, Kierland rests on about 38 acres of newly redeveloped local land. For those who don’t live there, Kierland is still a destination for convenient shopping, spa time, and dining. How long before Kierland becomes its own city? More >>
http://scottsdale.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/index.jsp?null An exotic and romantic date spot thanks to its lakes, waterfalls and gondola rides, the Hyatt's further buoyed by the resort's rotating live music roster. Every night in the lounge you can find one of three acts -- Paul McDermand (steel drums and marimba), Mosaico (a flamenco group with dancers) and Nuance (a contemporary classical group). More >>
http://www.skepticalchymist.com Looking very much like a kind of place you'd find on the Emerald Isle, Skeptical Chymist is a charming place resembling an old apothecary with rustic wooden furnishings and hundreds of books lining the walls. Besides having an abundance of the obligatory Guinness on tap, you can get ice cold pints of Harp, Bass, Newcastle and numerous other import drafts, as well as other Irish booze and brews. Several specialty cocktails, like the Chymist Royal (a concoction of Bushmills, apple liqueur, and ginger ale) are also on the menu. It's definitely good for what ails you. More >>
http://www.starwoodhotels.com/westin/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=1386 There are resorts, and then there are resorts like this magnificent Scottsdale destination. Ten—count them!—restaurants, a luxurious spa, upscale accommodations, and a water park featuring a 110-foot water slide to keep the kids busy while you lounge by the pool or head over to the Kierland Flowrider to (no kidding!) grab a surfboard and ride the waves. If you want to join your kids, there’s the Family FUN Program, offering age-appropriate activities for kids of all ages; if you want them gone for the day, Westin Kierland Resort and Spa offers kid-themed day camps, as well. This pet-friendly resort also features a championship golf course and an award-winning spa called Agave, where traditional Native American treatments handed down from Arizona’s many cultures of healing can be had.
