For the last ten years they've been forging ahead in the local theater scene, making their home at Tempe Center for the Arts. The indie theater troupe specializes in provocative theater that could be described as experimental or alternative, though they prefer not to be labeled the latter. It's a quirky, edgy and irreverent experience and they push themselves to explore the boundaries of theatrical possibility with every season. That means provoking, challenging and sometimes jolting the audience as well, by pushing them to experience live theater in a fresh, new way. The troupe aims to attract a younger audience with doses of cussing and sex that might offend an easily-offended crowd. And they don't back down from typically taboo topics.     http://www.tempe.gov/index This 88,000 square foot performing and visual arts center serves the cultural community of Tempe with multiple performance and outdoor venues. Located on the banks of the Tempe Town Lake, the facility opened in September 2007 and cost some 65 million dollars to construct. The largest theater space seats 600 people in an impressive wood-clad auditorium while the smaller Studio Theater accommodates 200 people in a black box theater space. The center's gallery can open into the lobby allowing for a seamless flow from one space to the next. There's also a lake side multipurpose room, an outdoor amphitheater and two entrances to the center. The Tempe Center for the Arts is home to a number of performance groups based in Tempe including Childsplay, ConderDance, Tempe Symphony Orchestra, Arizona Wind Symphony and Desert Dance Theater.
