While you wait for the invention of the time machine, get a taste of the past on the corner of Central Avenue and Roosevelt Street, which turns into a 1930s-style speakeasy every third Wednesday. Think less flapper, more big band when the bar area becomes a scene of spinning, imbibing, and live entertainment.
This event features a brief (and free) swing dancing class. Food specials from yesteryear will be served, too.
The transformation takes place at DeSoto Central Market, 915 North Central Avenue. Admission to Speakeasy Nights is free, but doesn’t include the purchase of old time-y inspired libations. (Though you could follow their Twitter, @desotoMKT, for special passwords to get discounts on classic cocktails.) Call 602-680-7747 or go to www.desotocentralmarket.com.
