Maggy Rozycki Hiltner loves antiquing, but probably not for the same reasons you do. In addition to the flowery fabrics she incorporates into her work, Hiltner keeps an eye out for “animals that are meant to be cute, but instead come off with a sinister snarkiness.”
This should tell you a little bit about Hiltner’s art, which aims to explore the darker, sadder side of your grandmother’s embroidery. A 288-square-foot installation of her work is on display at the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum, One East Main Street, and the piece takes up the entire gallery. When cute meets cutting edge, you've gotta make some room.
“Vantage Point” is on display through August 16, and admission to the museum is free. Visit www.mesaartscenter.com.
