Any red-blooded American knows that the fourth Thursday of November is Turkey day. (Some might recall it being referred to as Thanksgiving once upon a time.) But there are 51 other Thursdays throughout the year, and the turkey's been hogging the heat lamp long enough, so to speak.
That's where Audubon Arizona's Birds N' Beer series comes in. Every third Thursday of the month fledgling ornithologists gather at Phoenix's Rio Salado Audubon Center, 3131 South Central Avenue, to get schooled by the experts while throwing back some Four Peaks brews and pecking away at snacks. So instead of spending "happy" hour with disgruntled coworkers sulking over a $4 pitcher of Coors, Birds N' Beer might just be a more enlightening and palatable way to enjoy the waning hours of daylight on the second coolest day of the work week.
The free event takes place June 20 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Visit www.riosalado.audubon.org/birds-n-beer or call 602-468-6470 for more details.
