Short of turning back the clock to a time when property taxes didn’t devour nearly every noncorporate establishment in the Valley, how can Phoenix keep its precious remaining scenesters from moving to Portland, Seattle, or Brooklyn? Well, one way is to provide nighttime entertainment at a seedy establishment where the booze is dirt-cheap and the tunes are spinning on vinyl. That place is south Scottsdale’s Rogue Bar, which helps to wrap up each weekend (or kick off the week, if you prefer) with $2.50 well drinks and $3.50 pitchers during its Hard Day’s Night shindig. Every Sunday, DJ Scottie Copalman resurrects the ultra-divey rock vibe that the old Rogue (Sneaky Pete’s-era) was cultishly famous for as he spins ’60s garage, psychedelic, soul, surf, fuzz, blues, and good-ol’-fashioned rock ’n’ roll, all exclusively on those black plastic Frisbees your parents used to collect.
