Socrates may have been a whimsical, grandfatherly figure in the 1989 film Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, but the classical Greek dude tackled the tough questions of his day. The Socrates Cafe meet-up at Practical Art carries on in the tradition of the father of Western Philosophy.

Bringing philosophy to the masses stems from author Christopher Phillips’ smartly titled Socrates Cafe. Inspired by the late 20th century French philosopher Marc Sautet’s Café Philosophique, Phillips envisioned informal forums for people to converse on whatever ideas they deemed important or interesting. Whether you have a burning philosophical question to offer or you just want to sit in and listen, Practical Art provides the perfect cozy atmosphere for serious conversation without feeling stuffy. Excellent!

Socrates Cafe is a free event at Practical Art, 5070 North Central Avenue, from 3 to 5 p.m. every First and Third Sunday of the month. Visit www.practical-art.com for more info.
