Presidio Cocina Mexicana is a small strip mall counter-service restaurant in central Phoenix. It might be in a strip mall, but the space is comfortable and sleek, with a menu of Michoacan-inspired breakfast, lunch and dinner offerings. Starters like totopos con chile – tortilla chips swimming in a deep-red guajillo chile sauce, then topped with black beans, onions, cilantro, sour cream and cotija cheese – are very good and indulgent. Pork is a house specialty, so you’ll probably want to try the “Three Little Piggies” plate, which includes your choice of carnitas, al pastor, cochinita pibil or chorizo tacos. The restaurant also has a menu of gourmet lattes, and you probably won’t want to miss the homemade horchata – you can really taste the difference.
