Take a trip back in time to the Ol’ West (just ignore the strings of colorful electric lights) at Cavalliere’s Reata Pass, a steak house and barbecue joint that has been serving Cowboy-style eats since the 1950s. Try some mesquite-grilled chuck-wagon fare like a 14-ounce strip steak or signature two-pound T-bone complete with all the fixin’s – tossed salad, buttery baked potato, sweet baked beans, and soft rolls. There’s nothing fancy here, but it is a step up from what the original Arizona settlers mowed down around the campfire. Aside from the juicy steaks, the kitchen dishes up American favorites like burgers, baby back ribs, and grilled chicken. This historic restaurant was once out in the boonies, but over time, life in the Valley has grown around it, placing Reata Pass in North Scottsdale near Pinnacle Peak. Along with the grub, the location offers a view into Arizona history. Originally a stagecoach stop on the way to Fort McDowell and Prescott, the landmark maintains portions of the 1880s road, and the spot has been featured in a number of movies such as Bob Hope’s Cancel My Reservation.
