With no indication of its existence save two bougainvillea bushes guarding the door, Dick's Hideaway is a secluded reserve for those in the know. This bar and restaurant was once the spillover lounge for Richardson's, the popular restaurant that went up in smoke in July 2009, but now it's the sole attraction for people seeking Richardson's New Mexican fare. The main restaurant's kitchen was spared (lucky for us) and Dick's continues to serve food and daily drink specials to suits looking for a respite from the rat race. Despite its compact size -- a bar, three tables, and an adjoining party/dining room -- the warm wood, candles, and low light mean patrons will get familiar with each other fast as they crane their heads to see the blackboard specials or watch the tasty grub being cooked on the grill. Folks come from miles around for a giant lunchtime portion of Chile Adovada. (Served with one of the specialty tequilas, this makes a perfect early dinner too) For Breakfast, check out some of the southwest's best huevos rancheros or tuck into the Eggs Benedict, spiced up with hot jalapenos.
