Now in a new, downtown Phoenix location, Fez has spruced up an already well-done diner. Food is simple and fresh: Chilled lettuce wraps (grilled chicken; dried pears, dates, and cherries, nestled into cold romaine cups) are a fine companion to hot-and-spicy French fries. Nazare calamari is served with a nice roasted pepper aioli, which also featured in the chicken phyllo packets, a decadent appetizer gooey with rich feta jammed into crisp-baked phyllo along with spinach and spicy chicken. The tomato taza is easy eating for anyone on a diet, as is the pesto Caesar, a tasty charmer tossed with toasted pistachios and housemade croutons. Desserts, brunch, and an upscale bar thatâ€™s open late round out a nice addition to downtownâ€™s dining scene.
