This Mexican eatery, mostly dedicated to ice cream and other sweets, is located in a nondescript building on Van Buren Street in West Phoenix. The exterior doesn’t betray what’s inside, like the delectable elote en vaso. Served in a Styrofoam cup, the specialty dish is a lot like La Carreta de Lily – it doesn’t look like much, but looks can be deceiving. Plump kernels of corn float in a mixture of hot, gooey mayo, lime juice, and salsa. The whole thing is smothered with crumbled bits of cotija and dusted with red chili powder, creating an unexpected explosion of flavors. The popular Mexican street food is made even better by the fact that the corn is fresh off the cob, never canned. This elote y neveria (corn and ice cream shop) also serves several tasty versions of raspados de fruta (snow cones), perfect for cooling off during the warm season.
