Leave it to chef Aaron May from Sol y Sombra, DC Ranchs celebrated wine-and-tapas place, to transform a drab former Taco Bell into a hip, vibrant nook thats part retro greasy spoon and part neighborhood hotspot. Along with breakfast staples like pancakes, omelets, and corned beef hash, the menu has some craveable items that set it apart, from The Over Easy (toasted brioche with spinach, bacon sauce, and egg), to razz cherry scones with honey and crème fraiche. And if youre into chicken-fried steak, the scrumptious version here will keep you coming back for more.
This restaurant was featured on a local news station and I wanted to try it. I'll tell you exactly what I experienced: It has a small diner type atmosphere. I ordered a malted waffle with maple syrup, with a side of hashbrowns and bacon. Every side is must be ordered separately! I sat at the counter directly in front of the kitchen so I could see everything the cooks were doing with my food. While I waited for my food, I had coffee that wasnt that good. It had like a strong, burnt type flavor that I didnt like. I sat there and watched the cooks pre-cook massive amounts of hashbrowns, bacon, sausage, and even pancakes, then sat it aside uncovered until someone ordered it. The only thing I witnessed that was actually made to order were the omeletes. Ok, now for the taste test... My waffle tasted like the batter had sat in the refigerator for a couple days and it was luke warm at best, the bacon was dry and a little burnt, and my hashbrown looked and tasted like it was cut off a frozen block of potatoes. Needless to say, nothing was made fresh and the meal was less than average. Ive had hotter, tastier food from Denny's!

Overall:
After the profile aired on Diners Drive ins and Dives, I went to check it out on a Tuesday around 10:30 am. Cleanliness is very poor. Trash can was actually touching the "clean dishes". The ac ducts, lighting and tables were dusty and unsanitary. The food did not arrive till 47 minutes after ordering. The food quality: no red gravy served with hard ham, potatoes were very dry, and the chicken fried steak was tough. The strawberry lemonade was ok but not a free refill for the amount charged. Service, extremely poor. Drinks went unfilled for 18 minutes. Overall, Guy Fieri got this one wrong. A real DIVE.
