Yasu Sushi Bistro

4316 E. Cactus Rd, Ste. B-4
Phoenix, AZ 85032
602-787-9181
Sushi doesn’t get any better than the sublime offerings at cozy Yasu Sushi Bistro, which reminds us of the hip eateries we’d find in Tokyo. Behind the counter, chef-owner Yasu Hashino works his magic with impeccably fresh fish, including interesting specials of the day like sanma (mackerel pike) and ankimo (monkfish liver pate). The menu also devotes a whole page to sumibiyaki, charcoal-grilled dishes that get their distinctively savory fragrance from an expensive kind of Japanese charcoal called binchotan. Don’t miss the smoky-sweet grilled tsukune (homemade chicken meatballs), or creamy sea scallops wrapped in bacon.
