6 Boys Noize Tracks You Should Hear
Boys Noize plays the Monarch Theatre on Wednesday, May 7.
Boys Noize performs at Monarch Theatre in Phoenix on Wednesday, May 7. The electro producer and founder of Boys Noize Records is an authority in the electro music scene on a global scale, and was shaping the American electro scene long before anyone was doing the Dada.
Boys Noize, aka. Alexander Ridha, is a German producer whose music you can't really stereotype. While it's definitely electro, he never quite stays with the same formula. Some of his tracks are more melodic, while others are intense and choppy, pulling sounds from techno and industrial. You definitely know a Boys Noize track when you hear one.
If you're on the fence about going to the show on a weeknight, these songs will help you convince yourself that it's a responsible decision. Or, if you're already going, add these Boys Noize classic tracks to your pregame playlist.
"Jeffer" is a popping electro track with an addictive melody that's often associated with the Youtube video of the hipster with some serious dancing skills grooving for the camera in what looks like a 70s style basement.
"Swoon" Remix (2010)
Boys Noize took the already good romantic, progressive track "Swoon" by the Chemical Brothers and made it his own. The original version is soft and melodic, which seemed like a stretch for a DJ known for his raw, gritty style of electro. Boys Noize kept everything we liked about "Swoon," and elevated the track with an electro bounce.
"ICH R U" (2012)
This track is a good example of the classic Boys Noize sound. It's a nearly symmetrical balance between a melody you can dance to, and digital, mechanical sounds that add a roughness to it.
"Next Order" Dog Blood (2012)
So technically this is a Boys Noize and Skrillex track, but I'm betting some Dog Blood drips onto Boys Noize's sets here and there. Honestly, if you listened to the track without knowing it is a collaboration between Ridha and Moore, it would pass as a Boys Noize original. It has a choppy, electro quality about it that's pretty consistent with the Boys Noize style.
Unlike any other tracks on this list, or many Boys Noize tracks in general, "Starwin" draws its inspiration from disco. The track stays pretty upbeat and consistently on the same level, without any major bridges and pretty mild builds.
"Got It" featuring Snoop Dogg (2014)
Three words: Bad. Ass. Track. Although Snoop's vocals are the focal point of this track, hard bassline that Boys Noize created really enhances the attitude of the lyrics. The simplicity of this track makes a bigger impact than if the bassline was riddled with complex layers and effects. The song is about how Snoop "still has it," collaborating with a decorated Berlin-based electro producer definitely helps make a point.
